I need Updating Road bike 7speed shifters

I have a Schwinn 564 Aluminum road bike with Shimano EXAGE sport components, 7speed(2 chain ring front) index down tube shifters. I like the bike and its ride but would like to replace these shift and brake levers with a 7speed shift/brake combo system. However there are no 7 speed brifters to buy. I have found new and used 8 speed shimano RSX, RX100 and SORO 3300. Will these 8 speed shifters work with the rest of my components? I yes which is the best choice?

All advice welcome

Dave

I have found three donor bikes recently with 7 speed STI. But a quick look at ebay and I don't see any for sale.

Yes, any of those 8-speed STI levers would work. Stick with the RSX or RX100.

Look for 7-sp RSX brifters, or just search for RSX and read the ads carefully. There's almost always some out there. However, 8-sp work just as well, and if you're riding hoods a lot, the Sora works just fine for about half the price, or any other 8-sp STI. I'd think that 600/DA would be overkill on an Exage drivetrain, but if the price is right...

I just did my Paramount. Lost the indexed downtube shifters (on the 'Bay as we speak) and put on a nice set of Shimano 105 brifters I picked up on e-Bay for 120 bucks. ( I know, I know, I could have found them at a yard sale for a buck two ninty eight but time passes ya know ) it was a fairly easy swap, especially with some help from the BF crowd. Makes riding a nicer experience. It took quite a bit of looking to find them but worth the wait.
7 speed stuff must be getting hard to find. I've got 35 watchers on the sale of my 7 speed downtube shifters and a couple of bids.
