Continuing with cudak888's theme of what "is" and what "is not" a "real" Paramount, I'm certain this listing for a Paramount is truly not a "real" Paramount.

What it is, I'm not certain. The pictures are bad and it might not even be a Schwinn. The serial number is the biggest problem. Also look at the headbadge. Is it missing the screws?

I knew the lugs looked familiar, but wow, did they junk this bike or what? So the worn off name with only a "P" left is then suPerior and not Paramount. You've solved the mystery. Time to set the seller straight.

What they mean by that is the Paramount Design Group "P" at the top of the seat tube. Nothing has worn off, they're just clueless.

On the bright side, anyone who "Google[s] it" will find a few surprises in store.

Perhaps I am dense but regarding your "what is or is not a paramount photo essay" were the "Non-Paramounts" resprayed/photoshopped "other bikes" parading as Paramounts? The Kool Yellow looks like a Varsity, I ask specifically because of the Blue "P" non-Paramount though.

Isn't that Reynolds decal wrong for a Schwinn?

I find myself a tad vindicated that the whole universe (including the ones who voiced an opposing opinion in this thread) agreed with my assessment that $1000 (+$75 shipping - about twice the actual cost to add insult to injury) is way too much for this frame...

It's still worth $1000 in the seller's mind. I believe, as others do, it is a fair price considering the paint job is worth nearly that much, if not that much fresh from the painter. If it had been my size, I would have considered a bid. But it is at least 10cm too small.

My '66 Paramount is worth about $2000 in my mind when I consider the expense and effort it took to bring it into the condition it is in. Could I sell it for this amount? Probably not in today's market. But maybe someday. I don't care when.

Too bad you became so hung up over the seller's typo about real Paramounts not being made after the early '80s.

Nah, I was not really hung up about anything other that this bike was way over-advertised and way over evaluated for what it is: a relic, albeit prettily restored. That frame will sell for $300 on the 'bay in today's market. What po'd me off was all those people here who were drooling about it and suggesting that it was a great deal, but did not have the cajones to put their money where their mouth was... (Or they may have had other considerations, or were buddy's with the seller, or?)

What a bike is worth in ones' mind and what is worth outside it, is a huge difference. Heck, I would not sell at least one of my bikes for $10,000 (even though, it could be bought for less than $200 IRL... but it is the it and me connection and memories that make it worth so much to me; lose that connection and memories and it is another piece of steel -hopefully steel)...

Whoa, I just thought it a nice looking frame. I got enough cajones but not that kind of money and its really not my interest anyway. Why can't we just enjoy bikes we come across without debating the relative value? The market will decide what its worth. Obviously, none of us were potential buyers.

The yellow frameset is a Super Sport, and the red track frameset is Italian w/a Paramount headbadge. The teal frame's heritage is unknown, but it is definitely not a PDG-era Paramount.

On which frameset? The '55, or that orange thing that's been kicking about eBay?

I can't believe that is a Schwinn product. Looks like an American builder replaced the rear triangle to their own design to me...

But yeah, the Reynolds decals is later than the Schwinn band on the seat tube.

That too, but not a single decal on that thing is correct, either in terms of position or period correctness.
