Bridgestone XO-5 conversion to sidepulls?

Just wondering if anyone knows whether a 93 XO-5 is drilled for recessed bolts. I don't know how to tell if they are or not, and they have cantis mounted now, but I wanted to use sidepulls instead. If someone could help me out or tell me how to tell the difference that would be great.

Thanks!

I have a 1991 MB-3, and I think my frame is very similar to your 1993 XO-5. I don't think you can mount sidepull brakes on an XO-5, because the distance from the fork crown and seatstay bridge to the rims is too great and the seatstay bridge is not drilled for a brake. As to your specific question, the hole in the fork crown is not drilled for a recessed brake, and you can tell because the hole is not enlarged in the rear.

So why do you want to switch from canti to side pull?

I just like the look better, and I'm not super confident in my ability to adjust cantis. I guess I'll have to learn though, thanks for the help guys!

If you update to modern canti-brakes, which use the same threaded brake pads as V-brakes, adjusting them is pretty simple. You can get nice canti or v-brakes for about $15-20 per wheel.

Any suggestions for new cantis? I was looking at the Tektro CR720s, any opinions on what to get?

Those are very nice. I just picked up two sets for a bike that I am building up. I got then at Jenson and they are still $19.99 a set.

What ever brand and model you choose, do yourself a favor and change the stock pads for Koolstops.
