I purchaced a new panasonic dx-4000 in 1981 & I believe it was just over $400. I was a teenager at the time. I thought my dad was going to have a stroke. He helped me with some of the money but he had know idea a bike could cost that much. I road the heck out of that bike. I don't think he ever understood my addiction to bicycles.
