1990 Peugeot Triathalon questions
 

So just a couple quick questions....

I picked up a good condition version of this frame and I am having a hard time finding sizes for seatpost etc.

Anyway.....

1.What is the seat post size for this frame?

2.I am going with a threaded fork for my build and the head tube is about 190mm and the headset I am looking at has a 38.5mm stack height. So 230mm for the steered height would be right? right?

3. I figured out that the spindle length for the BB is 118mm. I have a Sugino xd700 which I took off my peugeot U-o8 and the spindle length is 110mm. Will this crank work on this bike?

4. Finally anyone have a recommendation on a seat? I am about 6 ft 150 lbs one under 100$

This bike originally came with Shimano RX100 components. I think that the seatpost is 26.4 for that year.

Yes, 26.4mm seatpost to fit into the Super Vitus 980 French tubing. I believe that these later versions of the Super Vitus frames by Peugeot might have used internally expanding seatposts mechanisms, such as you would have for a quill stem, that's if you do not see any sign of a seatpost clamp on the frame. Makes it a little harder to find the proper seatpost for the bike if this is the case. My PSV which the Triathlons were dervied from has the jam screw system which cerainly falls into the long list of quirky bike component designs from France. The one on my PSV is by JPR. a fairly obscure french component maker. 26.4mm seaposts can still be found out there by all sorts of makers, even Campagnolo, but it's the way the French (specially Peugeot) design their frames that will determine if you can use what is available out there.
If you think that a 26.4 mm seatpost might be unusual, how about trying to find a 23mm seatpost by "Rubis" for a Vitus Carbone 7 Plus! If I ever lose or damage it, Good thing the original seapost cleaned up nicely this weekend. I will post pic of it tonight.

In all likelyhood its a 3-tube Reynolds 501 framed bike.

...Meaning that only you can choose the right seat for yourself. I use the same Brooks saddle on all of my vintage bicycles and my plastic Selle Italia when I'm racing...

If it has the correct spindle length the crank will work.

I know about that site, and I emailed that guy asking the spindle length and he said 118mm. So even though in the description of my cranks it says" uses a 110mm BB" these will work?

Who knows. Sounds like you getting conflicting information. It being a Peugeot has nothing to do with anything.

Usually you want to match your crank-recommended spindle length to the spindle length of your bottom bracket, other wise it will result in a poor chain line.

I just pulled the seat post on my sister's 88 Reynolds 501 Triathlon - it's a fluted Stronglight and is 26.2

Saddles are indeed a personal decision - I'm primarily riding Selle Italia Turbo or Mundialita and Avocet O2 Air saddles on my bikes.

You are correct, the 1990 Triathlon seems to be the "post vitus" version that came out when Peugeot finally abandoned the steel tubing from the French manufacturers. Sorry for the misinfo on my part guys!

That would be my guess if it's a Reynolds 501 frame - both the 88 and 89 catalogs show a 26.2 seatpost.
