Lookingfor Classic Style Jerseys
 

Does anybody has any info on where I can buy plain, horizontal stripe, classic style bike jerseys made with modern fabrics? I sweat like a squeezed sponge and I need all of the help I can get.

And, I am also looking for world champion stripe jerseys.

I have been looking within BF and Google but the closest I found to what I am looking for is something like this:

Kucharik makes a nice world stripe model but it is Acrylic/Cotton. However, the did say that beginning of next year they are going to make it with a non-cotton blend fabric. So, I will be keeping my eye on their site:

USAZorro- Hum... I don't think I follow. Why would I get heat from wearing a WC stripe jersey?

It is not like I am wearing a full TdF (Astana, Discovery, Cervelo, etc) kit or wearing a full aero suit with an aero helmet on the local bike path...

Cyclists who know its real significance often feel the need to explain it to you while simultaneously explaining (thats the nice word for it) why you have most likely not earned it.


Oregon Cyclewear has good prices but FWIW I called them to ask a simple question about a Jersey and the guy I spoke to was a major USDA approved A-hole and managed to prove it repeatedly over the course of a 60 second conversation. Kinda turned me off from ordering from them on the off-chance I had to return something and deal with someone like that.

I guess you could tote around reproductions of Olympic medals to show off too. Not much difference between doing that, and wearing WC stripes, IMO. Wearing full kit is kinda like wearing your Jerome Bettis jersey while playing flag football with some of your buddies. A little weird maybe, but not such a big deal.

WC stripes are only appropriate for trim on cycling garments unless of course you rate them.

From my point of view and of course, IMHO, wearing TdF yellow (or polka dot or Giro pink or green jersey, etc, etc...) to me doesn't mean that a local rider had to earn it. I guessing most of these riders, myself included, like the graphics/designs of these jerseys. Some might even be paying homage to that bike event. Who knows. Now, if I was wearing polka dot and had to walk the bike up a hill, that will be a diff story... :-) But nevertheless, personally, I will not give heat to that person that had to walk the hill even if he/she was wearing polka dot, WC stripes or a Nascar t-shirt.

This argument can be stretched to include TdF kit riders and somebody could ask why are these people wearing a full team kit when they are not part of that TdF team and, they did not 'earned' the right to be on that team?

I saw something interesting up in New Hampshire once. Two men, one wearing a Navy Seals cap, the other, no cap. The one without the cap (who had been a Navy Seal) was asking questions to the one with the cap and wasn't getting the answers that he was happy with. He politely suggested to the man that he remove the cap and if he didn't, he'd remove it for him. Very polite, very firm. The cap was removed and both went on their way. I bet the guy never wore that again!

actually I must admit I did have polkadot jersey once but I was the QoM with my little group. there isn't really anything wrong with wearing team colors or a WC colors but... I would never show up a group ride with WC or current team jersey. I have seen USCF officials make riders turn their jersey inside out before the start of a race.

I'm not saying there are hard and fast rules about wearing them. Merely pointing out that there is no shortage of people who have pretty strong feelings that it's inappropriate.

WC stripes on the trim is the way to identify a former World Champion. Personally, I'd avoid those too... until I'm a former World Champion. :D

Vintage Velos jerseys are merino wool, a fairly light weave, or whatever the term is. They handle sweat well, bu8t you will want a base layer of some sort in anything below 70 degress, give or take. They aren't cheap, but they are well made and last. I have a fair number of VV's jerseys and like 'em a lot.

They also have some Eddy Merckx-era Molteni world champ jerseys.

But only in short sleeve. Simple design, and I've seen these Jerseys sell for under 40 bux with some coupons (which they dole out liberally).

These guys have classic styles, but original. I have a synthetic one that's a nice cut and finish, and different from the usual euro-pro-trash stuff.
