Compatibilty issues?

Hi all,

I'm building up my classic Battaglin road frame and am running up against some issues, so hopefully I can get some help out here.
I've picked up a Dura Ace rear hub (126.5mm spacing) which has a Dura Ace 7 speed freewheel on it. From Sheldon brown's website, it looks like only Dura Ace7 speed downtube shifters will work with this freewheel- is that correct or can I use any Shimano SIS shifters (I prefer Indexing)? It's been tough to get the Dura Ace downtube shifters on Ebay, and if that is the case, then i'd probably like to remove the DA freewheel and replace it with a Shimano 600 freewheel, as there don;t appear to be the compatibility issues that there are with DA- though i'd really like to keep the DA, of course! Can somebody confirm if my understanding of the compatibility issues is correct?

thanks!
Bob

Shimano freewheel spacing is the same. It is the RD that is not compatible with other shifters. If you are using a 7400 series RD you have to have the DA shifters.

+1. Match your RD and shifters when using DA.

Jake, did you get the bb you needed?

Thanks guys for the quick reply!
So what I understand is that I could go with any SIS Derailleur and SIS 7 speed shifter along with the DA freewheel?
Thans again!
