What are these things

I'd be more descriptive, but I'm not exactly sure what they are.

I have my guesses, but I just wanted to know if anyone had an actual answer.

I pulled them out of a bin at my local bicycle co-operative, and because no one there had any idea what they were, I took them. I've been using them as a dummy hood in the crook of my moustache bars, and they work great for that. Better than an actual dummy hood in fact, the dumbbell shape fits just perfectly. On a drop handlebar though, I can't imagine where these things would fit comfortably, or why they would be any improvement over a normal dummy hood.

As far as I can tell, they are really awkwardly shaped dummy brake levers (at least I've been using them as such). They are made by Dia-Compe, and they do have the right shape clamp to attach to a handlebar.

Yeah, dummy hoods, but probably for the back seat of a tandem.

OH yeah don't see many of those around anymore. when you post them on eBay be sure to say they were used by Pete and Lon to set the cross country tandem record LOL

just badly shaped dummy hoods? I'm disappointed.

And Bianchigirll, no way am I selling these. They actually work better on moustache bars than normal dummy hoods.

Those sure are items that you do not see anymore.

One slang name for them is honking stoppers. You hold onto them when you stand up and honk on the pedals to accelerate, particularly on the back handlebars of a tandem, which had no brake levers. If you ever rode a two-male tandem for speed with the pedals in sync, you would appreciate them. In addition they afforded more hand positions for the stoker on a regular tandem too, with pedals out of sync. You can use them on one side of the handlebars of a track bike that has only one brake.

Learn something new every day.

I thought they were bike boobs.

Clamps and stuff sticking out? Not "clean" enough.
