Back to the C/V version of the forum? Please?

How might I undo this new CV interface? I'm finding the forum very difficult to use and I'm greatly unhappy with it.

I'll pay the membership fee to have the old interface back.

The Report Problem thread isn't working either. Took me several differnt methods before it would let me sign in, and some of the headings are on top of each other

wrk101 11-19-09 10:18 AM

Its working fine for me. Runs well on Mozilla.

Zaphod Beeblebrox 11-19-09 10:27 AM

Works great for me in FIrefox 3.5.5

Are there any forum skins?

treebound 11-19-09 10:36 AM

Works a little clugy with the phone MS style browser for viewing.

Works a little funky with the phone Opera browser.

It will be different but I'll adapt since 95% of my browsing is with the phone and about the only time I turn on the PC is when I want to do pic uploads.

Life is full of upgrades, pencil sharpeners become antiques.

beech333 11-19-09 10:43 AM

I'm finding it a bit slower when replying, but that isn't too bad. It does seem like a step backwards though.

I'm really hoping that this has been done to protect the forums and not as a makeover. I was very pleased with it before, but I do think that some of the changes are unnecessary. Perhaps that is just my nature.

banjo_mole 11-19-09 10:47 AM

If it isn't broken, dont' fix it.

They could have fixed the "search" function. It was broken.

Zaphod Beeblebrox 11-19-09 10:53 AM

always worked fine for me. Perhaps you need someone to show you how to work it to get the best results.

Searching is often one of those things that relies on the ability of the operator.

roccobike 11-19-09 10:55 AM

Works OK for me on this computer, now let's see what happens when I get home. BTW, I like the new colors, less intense on the eyes and I can focus more on the Bike Pics.

23skidoo 11-19-09 11:19 AM

It seems a bit clumsy to me to select a thread and then have to select it once again to get it to actually open up. Also, is anyone else experiencing the 'error' message in quick reply when, regardless of the length of your reply you get the message that your reply is too short and has to have two additional characters added--which does nothing to rectify the problem btw?

SirMike1983 11-19-09 11:54 AM

Yes it works on Firefox, but that doesn't mean it's good. I find it considerably more difficult to read than the older, simpler list style. The new design is all show and no go.

dannyg1 11-19-09 12:02 PM

Anybody notice ow resource heavy the forum has become? Don't now if it's Flash or Javascript but something has this board moving at a snails crawl.

redneckwes 11-19-09 12:04 PM

I dislike the new interface, I felt comfortable with the old one.

I suppose I'll adapt in time. :(

soderbiker 11-19-09 12:06 PM

works fine here .
but i must say its a bit hard to get used to new things ,especially when i loved the old look and ease of the forums .
give it time , we will adjust :)

Cheers
/T

Are all of you saying that you want to go back to the Classic &Vintage look of the forum?:)

It would be interesting to have a poll on the format change. We used to have that capability but it seems to have been deleted.

dbakl 11-19-09 12:23 PM

Seems to work, but a lot of visual confusion seems to have been added. Another forum I frequent just did the same thing, and I'm losing interest in both because of it. This was always a fun place to drop in for a minute and browse around, now it seems kind of tedious...

Like indexed shifting: a complex solution to a nonexistent problem!

Zaphod Beeblebrox 11-19-09 12:35 PM

It kind of sounds like most of this griping could be solved simply by giving us the old forum skin. I have my vbulletin forum set up to allow users to choose from 4 different skins....its very easy to do.

... and it works fine with my Lynx, text-only, Web browser
on dialup with my C&V (1996) Toshiba 500CDT laptop (144mb
RAM; 1.7 gb HD). :-)

I'll be honest, I'm not impressed with the look. I prefer a simple interface.
Yes there are some bugs (or 'features' as we call them in software development), I can tell you that
IB is working on smoothing them out.
As long as I can discuss C&V bikes, and look at pictures of bikes I'm somewhat content.

Marty
P.S. please don't send me any PM's I can't read them (IB's working on it!).

My only problem so far is the look. Its a lot more work on the eyes, and I'm not even sure that's a subjective opinion. Seems like it could be measured by some medical instrument.

If I have to deal with this look, I'll be much less likely to read posts and spend time on the forum. The format is just way too busy and abrasive. A different skin would be a good solution.

If there were to be a poll, I would DEFINITELY place my vote in the YES,..PLEASE! column!

This is the only forum I've been active on, and it was because the "old" lay-out was the best I'd seen.
Now it looks like all those forums I avoid because they are too difficult to get to where I want to be.

But then again, a number of my favorite bikes have friction shifting...

Hydrated 11-19-09 01:32 PM

The thing that I hate about the new layout is the thread listing... it takes up way too much real estate. I liked the old layout because I could click into the forum and quickly scan the threads to see if there was anything that I wanted to read... and dozens of threads were listed on a single page. It made efficient use of each line of text.

The new layout uses up so much space for each thread entry that only a few are displayed on each page. You now must slog through several pages of thread listings to see them all.

cuda2k 11-19-09 01:40 PM

I think with a little tweaking that the new look and forum software will be just as good as the old. I am keeping an eye on the issues ya'll are reporting and getting them sent down the line to those who can make the changes (if they are possible) as quickly as possible. I tend to agree that we shouldn't fix what isn't broken, but with the size of the forum we have here, things were getting to the point of broken. I doubt that we can get the old "skin" back as we have a completely different version of the software running now, but it is something I can bring up.
