Miyata Three Ten
 

Can anyone shed some light on this model for me? Its a flea market find, Seems to be a decent bike. It has shimano AX with a Campy victory rear. I am itching to ride it once I get the back wheel fixed.

Thoughts?

Your sample is a 1984 model.The Miyata 310 is lower mid-range model intended for club racers and avid cyclists. The frame is Miyata's proprietarey double butted CrMo tubing mated to hi-tensile forks and stays. Weight is about 25 lbs. Original price about $325 US.

The rear derailleur is a replacement for the original Shimano 105, as is the AX. The saddle is also a replacement.

Miyata are very well designed and manufactured bicycles, arguably the best mass volume brand of this period. It appears to be in very good condition, so provided it fits you properly and suits your needs, you should be very happy with it.

Mine is in storage over in Vancouver. I've not seen it for 16 years. From memory: mine is an '82 or '83. The drive train was all SunTour. I think that someone has changed out your headset and brakes. Someone has juiced this one up. You are going to love it. IMHO, it is an excellent middle between nervous handling racers and lazy tourers — a true clubman in the old tradition. Miyata's tubing and their frame assembly is very respected by those who are not interested in collecting bling points. I wish mine was here in Japan.

Makes a great tourer, too, without a lot of fussing around. Machin Shin has a beauty, same year, same color.

And if it doesn't fit, PM me, as I'd be interested....I'd like to build a non-serious tourer.

I leave my dork discs on, so people will underestimate me. Or something.

Turns out the rear axle is broken in half. Now to find a replacement wheel or get it fixed. I think I will toss on my Nitto Pearl stem, Nitto Bars and 600AX Levers.

The axle itself is very easy to find, it should be a 10mmX1. If the cones are still OK they can transfered over to bare axle. If the cones are bad you'll need to find a donor hub, replace the hub or replace the wheel. Replacing the hub is easy as you can use any small flange hub without have to replace the spokes.

I think it is going to be easier to find another rear wheel. I have a feeling the hub is toast.
