This bike looks like it's made of carbon fiber and it's got brifters. What is the bike and what component group is he using?

It is a Lemond Badged bike made by Calfee.. Most likely riding Campy Record 8 speed at that time..

When I was searching for the name of the bike, I discovered Merlin, Clark Kent, Litespeed, some Italian outfit, and of course, Trek, made Lemond bikes. Didn't see Calfee but now that you point it out, it does seem obvious. Thanks.

That helmet looks like it weighs 3 pounds.

The old giro helmets were actually pretty lightweight.. The original Prolight or Beer cooler helmet was a revelation over the Bell V1 Pro which was one of the more popular models of that time.. I think the helmet he has on is the Ventoux model, probably somewhere around 9-10 ounces, lighter than most helmets made today but not as safe..

The older Giro's were one crash helmets, but they saved my head on more than a few occasions..

I thought all helmets were one crash helmets.

They are, at least with my kids and wife. Replaced mine as well last winter after two nasty falls in the snow.

The new style of helmets are much tougher than the old giro's.. You would literally have 2 or 3 pieces in your hand after a crash, but as long as the helmet did it's job..

That bike looks to me to be an early OCLV Trek. Like an old 5200 or something.

Look at the end of the brake lever. It has a pyramid shaped end which indicates teh very first generation Ergopower of 1992. Yes 8-speed with delta brakes. Couldn't tell you anything about the frame though.

If I remember correctly, that frame was CF tubes bonded with CF or Alum lugs of a sort. Those are web-like gussets at the tube junctions. This was long before Lemond had any affiliation with Trek.
