Spotted in the Wild

I wish I could find C&V bikes like these in the wild. Too bad I live in Nashville so the only bikes I see are rusted Roadmasters ridden by homeless people.

Living in the Portland Or area I'm often amazed at the bikes I see locked up out in the rain in the city - often multi thousand dollar rides.

Parking lot of Universal Cycles in Portland last week

Looking closely at the picture, it appears to be a Royal Star. I'm guessing theowner was looking for a front tire? Wish it was flipped around so we could see the chain guard better. This looks to be in near mint condition.

Yes it is.
He's in Rat City now.
I had just noticed the frames he used to build it.
The bike has own FB page, rat city tall bike.

With the UCI Worlds in town this week there are so many nice bikes around you just can't stand it. However, if you stop for a moment a few will reveal themselves to you.
Nice touring Cannondale. I saw a 25" red one also.

Some guy parked his sparkling emerald green Paramount as I was unlocking my bike after touring the displays at the Richmond Convention Center. I asked if he planned to take the front wheel with him and he said he was not worried with all the high-end carbon bikes locked up in the vicinity. I mentioned you could just go out and buy one of those, but that old Paramounts (and Campy stuff) are a bit different.

And just to make you groan, a nice old PX10 converted to coaster brake and with the derailleur hanger sawed off.

Walking thru the local campus, I spotted a smallish Gios Torino chained to a bike rack.

I apologize for the crappy picture but the bike was important to me. We were in our hotel on the last evening of a weeklong Hawaiian vacation (Big Island) and had seen only beach cruisers, mountain bikes and tri-bikes. Lots of tri-bikes, seriously. Suddenly, the elevator doors pop open and there's a guy at the back with a scratched and scuffed Motobecane with Vitus stickers on fork and frame. Grand Touring? Anyway, this is the pic I got. He said that the bike was as old as he was.

During the same week I also saw this, which I found amusing and kind of helped me get through the week.

I saw this Viner in Italy. But even for Italian city bike standards it was exceptionally nice.
