campagnolo rubino brakes??

on ebay now, someone is sellin campy "rubino" brakes. they look exactly like cobaltos except for ''red" jewels and red lettering. is this just a joke? i never heard of anything like this. did campy really make a "red" set of cobaltos?

With that price and number of bids, I'm inclined to believe they are genuine; either that, or perhaps one of those special aftermarket jobs from back in the day. Couldn't find a word about them online though, not even anything in the CR archives.

Was there a post here in the past year mentioning that these were for the Russian Olympic team? Or am I confusing this with some other component or frame?

Depends on the definition of fake. They may be a one off pre-production idea. Maybe a post production factory autherized mod. Maybe just customized in someones basement last month. I think that are cool!

I am with Soylent. I remember seeing a pair a few months ago that were for a Russian. I would imagine if you wanted to pay for them Campi would make any 'ino' you wanted.

A close cousin of Ambino - Campagnolo Yellono?

Looks as if we're no wiser then when we started.

I have wondered how Campy settled on the cobalto stone in the first place. It seems reasonable that Valentino could have commissioned mood stones of many colors. For whatever reason, blue made it into mass production. Perhaps these very limited oddities were held back or given to special individuals. Russian cycling officials for example.
For those who know Hotwheels, I once owned a pre-production, prototype, Beach Bomb. The most valuable Hotwheel ever & it was never sold in stores. Of corse Hotwheel junkies have always known the proto-BB existed.

Looks fake or "custom" to me. Since the stones have facets as opposed to smooth, it screams craft store to me.

No. The calipers are NOS. I see nothing wrong with his ad, we dont know for sure that Campy didnt make them.
