Colnago Super Frame Colour Question

Hi all

I've just bought a 1977 Colnago Super frame in Molteni Orange. Although the frame itself is fine, the paint and decals are a little beat-up, so it's my aim to restore this bike to its former glory with a fresh paintjob and some decals from Cyclomondo.

My original idea was to have the frame resprayed in Moleteni orange, but I've also noticed that late 70's Supers came in a stunning green colour. Like this one:

Does anyone know the RAL/Pantone colour for this shade of green? Does anyone have any experience in restoring a Colnago Super in this colour?

Thanks very much,

That would not help... for several reasons, the main one being compute monitor color processing.

What I would suggest is:

-find a place that you want to perform the painting (most likely it will be a place that paints autos/cars)
-browse a bunch of car catalogs online to find a similar color
-ask them to paint that color
-ask them to double clear coat it

Sounds like an exciting project. I raced one of these (slowly) back in the early 80s. Here's what I would do if you are in the Midwest. Look up Chris Kvale at this link/site. Shoot him an email and discuss this project. I was riding in the western Twin Cities area this past weekend and met a guy who had an original Chris Kvale bike. He had it recently repainted by Mr. Kvale and I must tell you it was beautiful. Try this link:

He has a thorough section about the entire process on his website, including paint matching options/choices. I met Chris at a local bike swap and he seemed like a very nice fellow. One thing is for certain, he builds some of the most beautiful frames I have ever seen. No, I don't work for him. I have heard his is a one person shop and he does the whole shebang.

Orange.

Definitely orange. Of course, this is coming from someone with an orange bike.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I know, I know - I'm seriously tempted to get it done in the original orange as well. I just can't make my mind up.

Anyway, I'll post some pics when I have them, and you can see for yourselves.

Thanks

Go green. Orange bikes are like a**holes - everybody has one. Just my opinion but I do like green bikes.
