Shogun Alpine GT
Hello,
Can anyone identify the approximate year of this Shogun Alpine GT (http://ames.craigslist.org/bik/1488926159.html)? Would it likely have a chromoly frame? Thanks, Tom |
Year: I would guess mid to late 1980's. From the absence of bar-end shifters, the low end crankset, etc. and with only a single set of bottle mounts, I would also guess it was an entry-level "touring bicycle".
Frame material: Steel, probably house-brand chromoly. |
We can safely eliminate the mid-1980s as Shogun was still using model numbers as opposed to names though 1985. Also, I see a set of bottle bosses on the seat tube, so it has capability for at least two bottles. It also has 27" wheels. It would appear to be circa 1986/1987. The tubing decal appears to be Tange Infinity which matches the 1987 literature. Forks (and probably stays) for that year were Tange Mangalloy.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. For $35, do you think it's a good buy?
|
It would be a good buy at four times as much. Grab it.

grab that baby. it's nice. appears to be about a 22" frame. looks like a nice touring setup with triple crank, low rider bosses on front fork, cantilever brakes, and lots of threaded eyelets for racks and fenders. it looks a lot like my shogun 2000 touring bike, for which i paid over $200 shipped.
