It's a 1967 Hetchins mixte, campagnolo parts, as imported and set up by Spence Wolfe. 10 day auction started today and it's already up to $800--reserve not met yet. I am new to all this so don't really have the full appreciation many of you will for Hetchins and the history of a bike like this---but just looking at it I think it's awesome. Look at those lugs!

I am not going to spend the time trying to get the pics here but if you can do so, please do.

yeah... a fine bike. Take note of the dimensions too... plenty of top tube. It WILL get a HIGH price.

What is the deal with the rear derailleur? Nuovo Record with Simplex pulleys? And why the long cage?

That is the most beautiful mixtie frame I have ever seen. However, gorgeous British worksmanship-reminds me of either Mercier or Mercian cycles. Bet it will go for a lot more than $820.

I would bid on it , even though I can't afford it if it weren't so small.

I have tried a few times to copy the photos over but to no avail. Between the new forum here and the way eBay displays, it seems to be no good. I can't even copy the pics to my own desktop. I know I've done this before, even copied them to this forum. If anyone is able to, it would be great to have the pics here for posterity. We're not likely to see a bike like that again soon.

I've seen it done mostly on track bikes and on 70's touring bike.

Jobst Brandt and others have probably covered it. I think it was intended to make the wheels stiffer since the spokes have less freedom to flex but in practice it's been found to be a nit and it's gone the way of drillium.

PS, that is one nice mixte!

The brake levers are also hand-made by combining the bodies of Weinmann levers and the handles of Mafac levers.

I recognize the quick release on the lever...I think they're Weinmann, not Mafac. It is a beautiful mixte... I wish it were 66cm!

In 1974 or '75 I rode a Raleigh International and read about soldering spokes. I built up an identical rear wheel and soldered up the spokes. The wheel was much harder, in fact too hard for regular day riding, but I saved it for loaded touring, to save my "good" wheel.
