Zunow

I just picked up a Zunow and was wondering if anyone could give me some info on it. Here is the link to the other posting in the A & I section that has pictures.

I had trouble inserting pictures so sorry about the messy post. It's a time trial bike I think but it is sweet!

Never heard of the name, but it sure is one of prettest bikes I have ever seen. Incredible workmanship-reminds me of older Mercians.

I believe the OP is correct. It is a TT bike. More specifically a "funny bike" which was outlawed in competition. That is not to say it could not be used in a tri, but the designation is a TT bike.

A Zunow roadie just sold for $630 on eBay, they are as rare as hen's teeth, at least in North America.

The Zunow "lepton" is a tri bike, but what is the bicycle leg except a long TT. The Zunow distributor for NA was based here in Vancouver and I was pretty familiar with their bikes. They sponsored the Puntous twins in triathlon, they got a lot of press.

Thanks big time for the responses. And a super big thanks to you thirst for the link. It helps to get a picture of what this bike might have looked like in it's original splendor. It's also nice to browse through that Mag. and see some of the older bikes. It's definetly a keeper even though it's not my size. I am thinking based on the year of that article that my bike is cir. 1987 and made with Tange tubing??? Any idea what kind of Tange tubing?? I emailed Zunow since they seem to still be in biz but there might have been some translation issues as I have not heard back from them. Anyone have a serial number data base? I could supply a serial num. if so.

norskagent, I did scour that site too. Many thanks.

Jet sanchez, I was watching that bike too. It was a beauty but seemed to lack some higher end bike qualities (correct me if I'm wrong) like the bottom bracket did not have the unique ?pantographing? like found on mine and others. Maybe this has to do with the year?

Thanks for any more info you can feed me.

To make the ST and the TT bend like this, you need some very thin walled tubing. Also there is a huge amount of fillet brazing (if you can call it that with that size) there. My gut feeling is that even Tange Prestige would be unlikely to withhold this treatment so I suspect that is was another (even lighter/stronger) type of tubing used. Regardless, this is a work of art. Enjoy it :)

First of all...That is an effin killer frame! Zunows are def in my top 5 all time builders list. Especially with that paint scheme. Whatcha gonna build it up with?

Secondly...I harbor a bit of resentment towards you for getting it! And the rear quick release is installed backwards.

Ferrite 12-16-09 11:02 PM

kpug505, Actually the whole wheel is backwards. DOH!

My top 5 too!

I would like to build it up with original parts if I can find out what they are. Otherwise Dura ace or Ultegra. I also have a campy chorus set I might consider but for some reason doesn't feel right putting Italian parts on a Japanese bike... We'll see what info comes up.

For some reason I keep getting the message that my message is too short so I'm adding this jargon :notamused: and so heres more. wtf.
