Series 5 Paramount

I finally picked up my first Paramount, although not the most desirable it is pretty damned nice! and it's my size! I gave it a quick once over when I went out to see it and found a dime sized very shallow dent in the top tube, not even noticeable unless one feels for it, so I decided it wasn't a big deal and could have it removed if I wanted to, so here it is, let me know what you guys think.

Great bike! I have a Series 2 (came with EX 500 instead of 105), and I would have to say that it's a great bike. I want to get a different fork one of these days, but the frame is no slouch. It is surprising how light these Tange tubed frames are.

I haven't ridden it yet but I'm sure it'll be a nice ride. :)

ilikebikes 12-19-09 12:37 PM

Wow!? I made it to page 3 with only one reply!? I guess you guys either don't like my Panasonimount, you don't care, or you don't like me. Either why I'll be just fine! ;0)

I like it!

Awesome paramount... You plan on doing any upgrades? A nice new set of wheels & tires, maybe a new saddle, and perhaps an STI conversion would make that thing HOT

you just took away everything I like about it! ;) the bike and all parts are in fine shape, 'cept for the seat and seat post, I replaced the seat with a Brooks Pro but the seat post appears to be stuck! :twitchy:

How can you remove a dent in the tube? Check if stem can be adjusted. The seatpost is painted, so that should make things a little better, just install the old seat, loosen and remove the seat post bolt, wedge a fat screwdirver or what-ever fits between the "ears" of seat post clamp, and try spreading it a little bit, add wd-40, and repeat.
Than stand over the bike facing backward, and try rotating the seat with all the strength you have. I hope that helps.

Stuck seatpost!?! Dang!

Sheldon Brown's (RIP) site shows how to use a set of wooden blocks cut out to fit the tubing, you lube the blocks up with grease, place them around the damaged area, clamp it in a vice and gradually tighten while swinging the frame back and forth. :thumb:

Yeah, I know. :twitchy: but the stem is absolutely fine? no rust? and no rust inside the BB?

Its a nice bike, the 105SC components work real well and they happen to match the paint color.

I have never ridden a Series Paramount, but by all accounts I have read they are very nice bikes. I'll be interested to hear what you think once you ride it. Nice find!

Thanks! I don't think I'm going to be riding it any time soon as we're in the middle of a snow storm! If anyone can give advise on un-sticking the seat post I'd appreciate it.

Nice bike, great finish - seat post might take a little work.....

I sprayed it with WD-40 and it's been sitting for an hour or so, I figure I'll let it sit overnight and try see tomorrow.

it's OK, the dent is almost unnoticable, any advise you want to add to the stuck seat post prob?

phoebeisis 12-19-09 06:54 PM

Nice bike!!
Someday, someone should do a blind test of the Waterford bikes vs the others.I kinda doubt that there is any difference in actual "goodness" of the ride.

OK, I'm sitting here at 12:11 AM typing with greasey fingers 'cause....the seat post has been freed! :bday:  all I did was spray some WD-40 into it and let it sit for a few hours, then I mounted an old junker seat and tried to twist it loose, after about ten minutes with no luck I let myself get angry! I grabbed the baseball bat and whacked the crappers out of the seat! Then I noticed that it moved ever so slightly! So I whacked it in the other direction and it moved even more! I repeated this a few times then tried by hand, it slipped on out like it was always free! I cleaned the black nasty grime off the post and inside the seat tube, lubed the seat tube and post with PHIL water proof grease, and slid it on in, tightened the collar and mounted the Brooks Pro! Yeeeeeeeee Ha! :D

Nice find, BTW.
I have one too, but with splattered, multi-color paint scheme.

It feels great to win a battle with a seatpost! Glad it came out
