1986 PSN10T. Newest addition... post cleaning, lubing and cable replacement. Rode it for the third time yesterday on our club's century. Original wheels will go on later this week with some new front Maillard "sealed" bearing cones, and a period correct Selle Italia Turbo seat is on the way.

2007 Cyfac Le Mythique as ridden in the TdF. I know it ain't old but among my classics there are no French bikes. It is, however, an example of fantastic French craftsmanship and one incredible ride.

1982 Peugeot Centennial Edition PH12

As is my usual routine, I began my day with a search on Craigslist. A bike that I had seen posted before had been relisted. I looked at the limited description and poor photo and decided to call. In wanting to avoid a costly trip, I had been hesitant to call, but I was bored. I called and asked if the tubing was Carbolite 103. The owner was away from the bike and could not recall. He did say that the tubes were unusal and he had never seen one like it before. I decided to make the 1/2 hour trip.

When I arrived, the owner showed me the bike, and my concerns were realized--Carbolite 103. Don't get me wrong, Carbolite is good stuff but I was hoping for something better. However, upon closer inspection, the bike appeared to be better than the tubing might suggest. The areo brakes were routed through the handlebar. The derailleur cables were routed through the frame. The components appeared to be mid to upper level. And the most interesting feature, the seat and downtube were tapered to create a more aerodynamic frame. After agreeing on a price, I paid the man and made the trip home.

When I arrived home, I did a quick search. The bike was a 1982 Peugeot Centennial Edition PH12. According to MiamiJim (found in another thread), Peugeot made the bike for a few short years. The 1982 model was the only one that had "Centennial" on the headbadge. It was designed to be an entry level race bike. Here is the catalog link:

Although I intended to sell it, I now think I'm going to keep it. I'm very pleased with the condition, and it appears to be a good bike. All I've done is cleaned it, but I'm looking forward to the rebuild.

All original never restored. I just changed the saddle which was used and the top-tube cable clamps, and tubular tire, that i ****ed up...they were dry though :-) Leaving next to France helps ;-)

This one is not quite french...it is swiss 10 miles away from france :-) But it rocks..very good ride feelings
It is a Coassin from Geneva's neighborhood called Carouge dated 1983-4

As best I can tell, the bike is original. The original owner bought the bike for $400 in 1983 (I have the sales receipt). I've considered changing the bar tape, but I am hesitant to alter it from its original condition. I appreciate your insight and advice.

I haven't posted my '74 Moto Grand Touring in a while, and I just put new Pasellas on it. Oh boy, what a difference better tires make! The ride was very smooth before, but now I would go as far as to say it has a calming effect on the rider.
(It was a beautiful day to ride too.)

I believe my GT is a 73. What changes did they make between these years? It looks like crankset, brakes,color? Is the frame on yours, 1020 tubing also?

BTW, this is my only bike that has a kickstand. And, the brake levers suck, even for people with big hands

Insofar as I know Roger, both years used 1020 tubing. They went to Vitus later on.
- but IMO yours is the more desirable with the Stronglight (vs Tourney) cotterless crank.
You are not alone in disliking Mafac levers. - And although I don't mind the reach, mine came with Weinmanns.)

I picked this frame up from a guy at work and put it together last weekend with Mafac, Stronglight and Campy bits. It started life as a Peugeot PX-10, but somewhere along the line someone thought it would make a great fast touring bike so they added a bunch of sweet braze-ons and gave it a professional respray. (I added the contrasting head/seat tube color.) Unfortunately, this frame is not robust enough for touring and the geometry is all wrong. Nevertheless, there’s plenty of length in the chainstays for a set of panniers. It has braze-ons for a front low-rider, but the thought of riding this bike down a mountain with loaded front bags send chills up and down my spine! I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it. I planned on letting my 15 year-old daughter ride it, but I’m having second thoughts about that.
