What did you do for the brake tabs, or was it like that? I actually race cross on a vintage conversion, but just use the old style brakes. Lots of clearance, but not favorable.

I had a framebuilder braze on the cantilever brake bosses. The brakes are French CLBs. Also, I had the rear stamped plate dropouts replaced with Campy horizontal road with derailleur hanger. This was all done over 25 years ago.

This is my 1988 Peugeot, which I use as my commuter. Miamijim identifies it as a P8 variant. It was a Shopgoodwill.com auction win at $15, plus tax.

This is a Motobecane mixte of uncertain vintage, also a Shopgoodwill auction win. I forget how much, but around $20 or so. This I intend to flip.

This is my '73 Gitane Tour d' France commuter. It came into the bike co-op after spending 20-some years in a machine shop. It looked like it got stuck in a dryer lint trap. Anyway, with all the french parts, sew-up rims, and the red paint being faded to silver on the side facing the window, no one would take it but me :-). I changed the bars and pedals, glued on new tires, switched the 5-speed cluster to an Ultra-six and swapped the big chain-ring so it is now half-step. The old rat-trap rack and saddle bag I had. The saddle is actually quite comfortable for being baked. I'm on it nearly 20 miles almost every day and quite like it!

It is a custom made stem that was produced by a local frame builder (Arvon Stacey) some years back... it was designed for mtb but mated up nicely to the Major Taylor bars.

The nut is in the bottom of the stem and needs to be set / tightened with a ratchet and extension... it has a great feel and is very nicely made.

Two of my super bargain bikes: A '76 Motobecane Gr Jubile, still awaiting a cleanup and overhaul, and my blue PX10, languishing, untouched in my basement, complete with a flat and rusty cables.

(One of these days soon I'm going to work a little on my own bikes, instead of the flips.)
