Need help identifying Gitane

It's got a chrome fork, Shimano 105 rear deraillure, Shimano 600 hub, Cinelli stem and bars, and some custom Mavic wheels. It says Vitus under the bottom bracket. Is there any other info not listed that would help identify the year and model?

Here is a link to the set of pictures of it:

Thanks,
Brandi

Nice bike. Looks like a mid 80's Gitane. Over the years some of the original parts were probably replaced. But thats a nice set-up as is. Heres a link to some catalogs of the era.

Hello Brandi welcome to the forum. great looking bike. lots of great "classic" parts Simplex shifters, Nervar cranks. what kind of brake levers? also do you have trouble with your water leaking out of the bottle? *giggle*

Nice lugs and that surface rust/corrosion on the fork should be pretty easy to remove.

Nice bike! Some aluminum polish will make all your shiny bits look like new again.

I'd even put it around early eighties though some components are clearly newer. The brakes are probably original but the derailleur is definitely new as are the wheels (Mavic Open Pro 4 CD which are the predecessor of the current Open Pro 4 wheels (anodised finish is the same but no machining on the brake surface). The bars are Cinelli Campione Del Mondo.

My guess is an 84.

@ Big Chainring - Ahh...the mid 80's info helped. I think I have the 1985 Performance model, and I guess it's been upgraded a bit as well. The frame in the picture is the closest matching I've found. Thanks for the help.

@ Bianchigirll - The brakes say they are Modolo Sporting and currently only the front has pads installed.

I think I might need to true the front wheel as well. I've got to tinker with the brake lever before I'll know for sure. The best part about this bike is that it was given to me for free because it was too small for the friend of mine that bought it at a garage sale for $5. I feel soooo lucky to have it. It fits perfect and I can't wait to get it out for a ride.
