Help Me Identify this Bianchi?
 

Hey everyone,

I just picked up this Bianchi from a guy for 80 bucks, I was wondering if you guys could give me some detail on what the model could be.

It's got suntour DT shifters, chrome fork
Serial number is BS 353461

Japanese made Bianchi from the Piaggio era (I am sure that Bianchigirll will nail it down) . That one has the Piaggio symbol on the ST and should be about 80-85 or so. Serial numbers suggest that it is an 83 and 61cm frame (I suspect that there is an "1" underneath the BB). Probably Tange tubing.

Is the seat post stuck?

nice bike. my guess is a "Limited". it is a big one, though. hope you're tall.

You really want someone like Bianchigirl who is pretty knowledgeable in these things. She checks in regularly so hang on there.
You're probably already aware that a chrome fork usually indicated a better bike, but I don't see any Columbus tubing labels on the frame to support it, so I can't even be sure about that.
If you could look closely , and scrutinize the dropouts, seat post and head set for any names, it may help identification

Hello I do on occasion, much as I detest it, have to actually work. LOL there is not much to go one here. suntour shifters and black? paint. do the dropouts or staycaps have any markings?

OK the only black bikes I see with that style decal Gold with the two blue 'bars' are the '83 and '84 Sport SS and the '85 Sport SX. but they do not have that shifter. however since the frame appears to be 25 yo and there are parts missing (from the shifters) I am discounting them in the identification. the Sport SS did have the the lower ends of the fork chromed so maybe someone stripped the paint on the upper portion. near as I can tell form the pic the headset looks closest to '84 or '85. the Limited in '83 (none for '84) was Eletric Blue or Dark Maroon. the '85 Limited had red decals plus was made from Columbus.

SS or SX is my guess too. Do the shifter braze ons have a square look tab sticking out in front? A sure sign it was Shimano equipped. I had an SS the same decals and all. Came with Golden arow, and had the tabs out front.,,,,BD

the serial number is a dead giveaway that this is japanese bike size 61 cm made in 1983 or a late 83, 1984 model. So it has to be the Sports SS, since it was the only black bike that fits the bill...

It could also be a foreign model, such as Canadian Bici I or Bici II, as the Canadian models models had full chrome forks during this period. What's the seat post size? That will tell us if it is a basic hi-tensile frame or otherwise.
