Converting recessed calipers to nutted

Perhaps this should be in the mechanics forum, but I figure the real knowledge is here.

Has anyone had experience with these and these? I have some Record calipers that someone converted to recessed with a saw. I want to reconvert to nutted. I have a nutted set I could cannibalize, but I am sure I would regret it down the road. Shoot...I am already having to rebuy stuff I sold a while back to finish this project. Moral....never sell anything.

It would probably work, but since the pivots won't have "BREV. CAMP." on them, nobody will talk to you. :)

CV, I'd suggest that you propose a trade with a forum member - recessed posts for nutted.

As for the eBay mounting posts, I'd stay away from them. Not because of the lack of Campy appeal, but because they don't have flats for proper centering adjustment. Your Campagnolo calipers will be rendered as hard to adjust as a pair of cheap Weinmann sidepulls.

I am thinking I can transfer those pieces. Not that it is really a concern.

That is what a file is for. Good idea on the trade, but I could not pawn these posts off in good conscience.

They are only $5 a pop, so I am going to give them a try. Will report back.

The recessed-mount front brake mounting post should be the right length to work as a nutted rear brake mounting post, so you only need to purchase a nutted front brake mounting post.

Just disclose the fact that they were home-done cut-downs. Most folks won't care. If I had a nutted set and needed recessed at the moment, I'd trade you on them.

As for the file, that'll be the end of the so-called plating on these things, and the beginning of rust. More effort then it is worth.

True. But that bolt is bent. I have another set of calipers I robbed for the rear.

Weeeelll.....I showed my ignorance when I made that comment. I had not disassembled a Campa caliper prior to this so I did not realize just how they went together. I ended up not pulling the trigger on the pivot bolts and I am going to use the front from the other nutted set to make things work. I had bought the set to use on this project anyway and only later found the second set that will save me more effort and $$$. You will see what I am referring to when the project is done.
