Berthoud Saddles:Any users here?
 

After much griping I decided I will try one. I will try one when I get that kind of money. The saddle appears to have a much thicker hide than the Brooks.

I also notice that the placement of the rivets is more logical. No more riding on the rivets/metal frame. The plastic frame design seems flawed but the revised tension bolt design seems logical.

I think these saddles might become a cult classic after they stop making them :) Hopefully he can make a large enough production run and spare parts. They look like a good alternative to Brooks.

I just don't see the logic in buying expensive components for show if they don't actually perform. The extra thick hide looks like it could theoretically provide twice the mileage of a Brooks...Time will tell.

Lord have mercy that is a spendy saddle but I like the design and I really like the rivets. The "natural" finish is simply gorgeous. My concern would be the "special high strength plastic" rear frame. I'm in Texas where the sun, humidity and heat will kill most anything. It's not a matter of if the Texas heat kill something plastic, but rather how quickly will it kill it.

For the price they are asking I think they need to clarify in great detail what constitutes "special high strength plastic". I'd be delighted to do some beta testing for anyone who wants to pass one of these my way.

I bought one as my Christmas present to myself (lucky me!). I took the plunge after a riding buddy told me he had ridden one over the summer on a 200K ride--new out of the box on his bike, and the most comfortable saddle he's ever ridden. I found that convincing. The bike it's on won't get ridden until the streets are clear of salt, so no ride reports for awhile.
