can you take the clamp off a clamp on FD and use it as a braze on?

I've wondered about that. Is there anything different about a clamp vs braze-on aside from the clamp being attached at the attachment point? Maybe it mattes on which FD I am talking about? I'm looking at Campy Record/Chorus which is what brought me to the question right now.

EDIT:

I think the answer to my own question is no...because of the design of the clamp you wouldn't be able to set up the FD without the clamp there. Too much stuff is integrated into the clamp.

No, because braze on mounts ae very different from what parts the clamp on mounts have. At least I never encountered any clamp on ones that can be flipped to braze on by just removing parts off the clamp assembly.

Don't know about Record/ Chorus but you certainly can swap the clamp and braze-on body parts back and forth on the old Mirage FD's. I've done it loads of times, just remove one small circlip from the pivot pin at the back of the mech and pull the body sharply forwards.

It depends on the derailleur. Some of the clamp ons are jsut a braze on with a clamp and a nubby attachment that emulates a brazed on tab.
