Miyata 512 info
 

Does anyone have any info on the 87 Miyata 512 Competition you would like to share. I found a used one for $190 that has Miyata triple butted Cro-mo tubes with Cro-mo fork, Shimano Light Action 6 speed indexed group a group I never heard of with Shimano SLR sidepull brakes, Shimano biopace gears, Sansin hubs with no mention of the model, Wolber Super Champion Gentleman GTA rims. Paint appears to be in great shape for it's age, no rust evident except the pedal caps. Baby blue paint with white head tube and all decals intact.

Do you all think $190 is fair for this?

I say jump on it. Maybe try to get the price down a bit but otherwise don't lose the deal.

I love my Miyata's ~ 1987 710 road bike and 92' Triple Cross both Shimano driven. The 92' Triple has the Biospace triple on it and I love it. The bike has 700 x 35 tires and seem to grip and push me ahead like the wind is behind my back (and I am a big guy)!

I am clearing my herd of all Italian (except my Bianchi's), French, and English bikes and plan on snapping up every clean Miyata I can until I have a nice representation of the Miyata Brand over the years. They are that nice. You can feel the Japanese quality as soon as you get on it. You will be glad you bought it if you have never had one I guarantee it!

Actually...it may just be Shimano components that seems to be so nice because I do have a nice Centurion Le Mans RS that scoots too and it is Sugino/Shimano driven. Either way for riding you can't beat a Miyata. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to contact the guy today and take a look at in real life and probably buy it. I haven't been able to find a classic bike that wasn't in the $1,000 plus range that was in this condition for that price, so I'll probably pop for it. It will give me a project bike to goof with and maybe sell it for more later...or not, depending if I like it or not when I get done with it.

It's not in outstanding condition like TOP506's but it's in good condition, it needs to be cleaned up and polished but otherwise in the photos it seems decent. When I said $1000 or more, these were poor to fair condition Italian, French, and British bikes with Campy stuff on E-Bay that are just crazy priced...at least in my opinion. There's even a 85 Miyata 100 on E-Bay right now that has a buy it now price of $180 plus shipping of course, and a Miyata 210 in fair shape with rust starting a $100, and a Sport at $200. Heck I can't even find a fairly priced Trek 760 either. Though I did see a Miyata Koga on E-Bay about 2 years ago go for over $1000, and it was great but not outstanding shape. But I think the economy is playing havoc with some of these prices now. Hopefully they will continue to drop since I'm still looking for a 70's to early 80's Italian job.

I've have a 54cm 88 miyata 512, which was great till I got tired of how small it was on me. But I still think it was worth the price I paid for it (in terms of quality and condition) which was a damn site more than the one you've found. One of these days I'll get around to listing the frame and parts or the whole bike for sale/trade.

Hey, that's weird, I have that same bike...well you know the colors are the same. Anyway it's a decent bike, the Shimano group is pretty decent and it's not very heavy. I hope the poster bought it.

Dear Miyata-Lovers!

Do you know anybody how wants to sell this bike - Miyata competition 512 - frame size 50 cm? After mine got stolen, I drove a Koga Miyata Gran Winner. This week, however, I had to learn that the frame is clinched. Because of the deathblow of my bike, I'd like to find a bike I love to ride.

Miyata series were sold a lot in Germany, but the Competition 512 was never sold on the open market here - mostly in the U.S., and probably also in Japan and the Netherlands. Now, I'm hoping for the chance that somebody wants to sell his/her bike to a person he/ she knows, that it would be in very good, passionate hands. If you thinking of selling, or if you know somebody who is considering to sell, please get in touch to me.

I know its been years since you posted this but I have this exact bike. 50cm small frame 512 competition with the smaller front wheel size. Its in nice shape and complete, just needs new tires and tubes. Hit me up if youre still interested in it. Im hoping to get what I paid for it back out ($250) plus whatever it costs to ship.

I just picked up a 512 for free.. Its in pristine condition... Gears are tight and the bike is light but solid. I couldn't believe they were just giving it away.I'm more of a mountain bikers but may give the road a shot.
