Can someone explain to me...

... why this is so special?

I get the NOS part etc, but still...

What do you mean "special"? Expensive?
Those Sachs Aris freewheels are pretty nice. They were one of the last companies to continue to offer a quality customizable freewheel as a current product into the late 90's. We used to have a board of cogs for them at the old shop I used to work at.

Not really, but I can add that a Nos 6 speed aris freewheel ended a week ago for 5$. However, a Sachs aris new success rear derailleur sold for 80 gbp (140$?)

They were a good, medium priced freewheel in their day. The notched teeth improved shifting though they weren't up to HyperGlide standard. I never experienced any problems with the body and cog durability was very good.

Still they were nothing special and I suspect the pricing is due primarily to cog ratio. It would appear the bidders aren't aware of the IRD freewheels.

IIRC they were about $50 back in the early '90s and were good FW as other have posted. I also agree that the ratio may be a big part, I am loking for some 7Spd cassettes and for some reason you get either 12-21 or 13/14-28/30+

his other items look down right cheap! a GC Mercxx chainwheel for $13.00 with only 2 hours left?

Dam....I have few of those floating around. Used of course.

Dunno, I lost a 12-22 NOS suntour 7s auction last night. It went for $26.77

I still have most of my catalogs and the Aris 7 speed ranged from $26.95 to $33.50 in the early 1990s.

Last year, my supplier still listed the HG70 in four ratios (12-28T, 13-30T, 13-26T, 13-21T) and the HG-50 in five ratios (12-28T, 13-30T, 13-23T, 12-21T, 11-19T). Plus, there was the HG30 offered in 11-28T. All are 7 speed. Last year, I was able to obtain several forum members an order of HG50, 7 speed freewheels for members, in a ratio that supposedly wasn't available. Only in Canada, eh?
