Neon Marin Road Bike?

A guy just dropped this bike off for a tune up and I don't think I have ever seen a vintage Marin road bike before. I thought they only did mountain bikes BITD. Seems to be a pretty nice bike, has 105 components and Tange double butted tubing. I was just seeing if anyone might know the year. I was thinking late 80's early 90's because of the paint but I am not sure how long the neon fad lasted? Super radical paint though

Marin sold steel roadies as late as 2004, I think, and the Portofino was a decent, if heavy, aluminum frame as late as 2005.
The Verona was Columbus tubed, but I can't recall if it was lugged or not.

That looks like Tange OS tubing, putting it 90-93. The 1055 Shimano 105 was post 1988, for sure, but I don't know when they went double pivot on the calipers. My 1055 stuff is STI and more pewter, so it may predate 1991/1992. I can't tell if it's 7-sp or 8-sp.

My guess is 1990-1993. One cool looking bike.

Oddly enough i think i saw that type of bike today on the return trip from Seal Beach, the rider had the same color scheme in cloths as his bike which looked like this Marin. I saw him coming from a long way off.

Socially unacceptable? I told the guy I was going to post it, so I have permission. Thanks for the info.

How does the guy say it rides? Seems like Tange is really good tubing...

I'm feeling weak in the knees...that rasta-esque paint scheme made my heart skip a beat!

I plan on test riding it before I give it back so I will let you know how it rides. I have heard good things but it seems heavy, I will have to weigh it as well. Wish I had some neon spandex and some matching Oakleys!

Contact the guy who made red leather bar wrap out of a pair of thrift store pants. I'll bet he has something that matches.

Marin Limited Edition, 1991 or 1992. Serial number and/or component date codes may narrow that down.

Sorry to post 18 months late!

T-Mar is right, but it is definitely a 1991. I have the 1992 Marin Limited Edition, which is black and neon green:

I also have the 1991 (and 1992) Marin catalogues. The picture in the 1991 catalog matches the OP's pictures (and of course the picture in the 1992 catalog is black and green like mine.)

whoa, if I had this bike I'd start making my living in the delivery business for the amateur pharmaceutical industry. Eek-a-Mouse blasting, doritos in the saddle bag. Nice zombie thread btw.

Found this one for sale by a local flipper a few years ago. It was well worth the $150 he was asking for the wheels alone, but it had some gnarly top tube damage that the guy was trying (badly) to conceal with a florescent light cover
