My 'New' Galmozzi
So I'm finally a Galmozzi owner! I went to Florence last week and stopped by a friend's place. He's Gastone Nencini's son and has quite a collection in Prato. Many of you may have purchased from him on eBay. A quick trade and it was mine! It's the first I've seen 'in the flesh'... my size, and it's now mine!
Mostly NR with GS brakes. I'll swap the rims out, since "hypothesis" is not a name I want on a vintage bike! Also, they're a bit new. Rear der shows '71' and I haven't looked inside the hub nuts. Brake levers look to be Victory/Triomphe, so I'll try to find appropriate NR with good rubber.
In his attic was a Guerando Gelli (local Prato shop) made by Galmozzi.
I have one question about this bike. The fork crown is a bit odd to me. It has some rust-colored swirls on it and to the touch feels almost clear coated. Is this at all possible or just some strange rust effect that's new to my ignorant eyes?

Thank you for sharing your beautiful bike. Nice blog as well. I'll pm you some questions about an Italian bike my family in Bavaria purchased for me recently!

Interesting cutout on the BB. I don't know if the 'rust' on the crown is intended or not. It looks nice, but if it's not intended it might be topical rust under the clearcoat (if it wasn't dry when the chrome/clearcoated it).
Either way it's a great looking bike. I bet it rides as good as it looks!

nothing like buying a bike from a pro mechanic who oh yah just happens to be the son of a 2 time Giro winner. . .
and the bike? stunning.
The rust looks like it has crept around under the clear. I'd talk to an good painter/frame builder about that (not sure who's in Switzerland).
And the Gelli was nice, would be good to see more photos of that one.

I'm somewhat puzzled by the bike. I will try and get a photo of the bike shown to Angelo Galmozzi to get his comments. There are certain aspects that are so right and other elements that don't correspond to Galmozzi bikes from those years, I simply don't want to comment yet. It does nonetheless look like quite an interesting bike and the perfect starting point for a restoration.

Not familiar with Galmozzis, but that is a nice classic bike you have there. I guess I'm not in that level of bike collecting.........yet?
Regarding the fork crown, it does look like rust tendrils under a clearcoat finish. I wouldnt worry too much about it yet, unless it gets worse or start to break out of the clear finish and really cover up the fork crown. Key is to not let it get any worse. At this piont, you can just consider it as normal age patina, but it should still be easy to clean off if you do decide to do so.
