My 3rd 1972 Paramount

I stumbled upon a 1972 P13 on CL on Tuesday that had very little information besides that it was chrome and had "Campi" components. I exchanged a few emails with the owner but never heard back. I had written it off until he called me yesterday and said he had emailed me a few pictures and to call him back. After doing a quick check of the supplied photographs I called him to let him know I would be by to pick it up in less than 2 hours. Arriving I wasn't entirely sure what to expect as the photos provided were not particularly clear but once I saw it in person I was stunned. It is a truly awesome bike. The chrome is perfect, the decals are perfect and there isn't a dent on it. After discussing the bike a bit with the owner, who bought it new in 1972, we exchanged cash for goods and I was on my way. It included the original tool kit and Schwinn owners manual. The Weinmann centerpulls were replaced with side pull Campy brakes, the tubulars have been re-laced to clinchers, the original Brooks is gone and sadly the NR pedals have also left the bike. I plan to replace the Avocet touring saddle with a period Unicator and put a set of NR pista pedals with Campy cages that have been in the parts box for a sunny day. Eventually I will lace a different set of NR high flange hubs to Weinmann wood filled tubulars for truly nice Sunday rides, though the '72 track gets the first pair of the rims I can find (hint hint all you readers). The photos were as supplied, I'll have some from the top of Conzelman road by the end of the week. The serial # is M72243 by the way.

The track, as found

It's now shod with *gasp* 50mm deep Cane Creek carbon track wheels and Look pedals

and the tandem

Excellent

Yum.

You know, some of us on the forum don't have any Paramounts.

Fantastic find, though one thing sticks out to me:

The serial # is 722243
!! - never seen any P-mount serial like that. You might want to check the left rear dropout.

That is a shame. My collection started with:

I'm rebuilding that one into a fixed gear commuter. The only room I have for it in my bike rotation is utility, but that isn't a bad thing. I put many thousands of miles on it before I had a bad wreck mid summer that wrecked the fork, front wheel and some other parts.

Nice find...I am glad you guys buy those beautiful bikes and show nice pics so I can drool. I don't know why but a Raleigh International turns me on more than a Paramount...the chrome ones are tasty though...and I do see how wonderful those baby's are!

Hi anomaly -
Well I'm glad to see that you finally have 3 Paramounts like all the rest of us. :)

( Congrats on snagging a truly stunning example! )

Hi,
.
I saw a '72 all-chrome, all Campy Paramount P-13 touted on eBay
as NOS (complete with tool kit\manual in pristine condition)
sell for $4,050. I don't know if it was NOS but the many
sharp detailed pics sure suggested to me it was. I remember
'cause I've got one too.
.
Mine also has the Campy sidepulls which, if memory serves,
were optional. Weinman were standard. My wife's '65 P-15,
also all-chrome, has Weinman brakes.
.

. . . and I thought I was being facetious.
