Braze on shifter problem.
i have a vintage road bicycle with brazed on tension shifter ''stubs''(i guess thats what you'd call 'em)
one of the ''stubs'' looks like some has tried to use a wrench to try to take it off(not knowing that they don't) the damage is very minor, only about a quarter of the top of the thread length. 1) i know you can tap it but i want to know how much it would cost 2) i was thinking about just drilling that small bit out, therefore completely ignoring the bit of thread that is hindering my enjoyment(is this a good idea? or would it mess with the tension shifters?) its an italian bicycle if that does anything.... thanks -jeff |
It is unwise to permanently alter an original frame set. Doing so will lower the value. In your case, I would simply get a bottoming tap in the correct size and carefully chase (re-tap) the threads. Any local bike shop will have the tap and they will likely allow you to use it right then and there is you bring the bike or frame set to them.
Hope this is a help. |
thank you. i took it in yesterday and they did it no problem.
