Photos always seem to make paint cleaner than it is in person. You can't really see my attempt at distressing, but I did my best to blend in the paint repair to the chain and seat stays with the rest of the paint. Waiting for the parts I ordered to come in. I do have a period correct trigger shifter in my box of goodies, but, with rod brakes, I prefer the older style with the long lever. It can be mounted so you can leave your hand on the grip and shift with only your index finger. No room for that with cable brakes. I'll use an old 3 or 4 speed trigger I got from one of my parts bikes.

Went for a ride to the park and pond with my 1978 Raleigh Superbe last night. All went well. I don't know how fond I am of the handlebars. The angle of the grips just doesn't quite seem right. What alternatives are commonly used on these bikes?

Regarding handlebars: I have used the Velo Orange Left Bank and the Nitto Promenade on these bikes, and they look right on there, while giving you that almost-perpendicular grip angle that I see on a lot of older bikes.
Or, for half the money, you can buy one of these from Harris:
Action Porteur Style Handlebar - Aluminum Silver - Harris Cyclery bicycle shop - West Newton, Massachusetts
These are my current favorites. They fit my preferred riding position perfectly.

You might want to rotate the handlebars so they point down instead of up. I found that to be a lot more comfortable!

What a nice Superbe. I like the way you have it set up. Looks like an SR stem. Lots of options for 1 inch bars. Problem is you need to see them in person to tell if they suit you. Some things just aren't good to shop over the internet.

Steco rear rack with stand - installation?

?I don't mean to offend, but the mental picture one gets upon seeing this is that of an orangutan on a bicycle. Are they going for the motorcycle "ape hanger" look? I dunno... but then impressionable riders, seeing that this is what all the "cool kids" are doing, end up doing the same thing for no good reason.
But I'm not judging, of course... just sayin'.
