650A tires - what do you like?
I'm converting a Schwinn Speedster (steel, 597) to 650A (alloy, 590). What tires do people like in this size? (I figured this bunch would know what's out there.) Thx...

I like the Schwalbe Delta Cruiser whitewalls.
I have a set of Continental City Ride skins that are good, too, and look nice. I just wish they were gumwall. Blackwalls leave me wanting a little more pizzazz, and I compare them to my cheaper kendas on a CCM that I flipped

Thanks for the suggestions. The Schwalbe website suggests they have a gumwall version of their Delta Cruiser, article number 11101084. The Continental website suggests they have a whitewall version of the City Ride, article number 0100705. That Delta Cruiser with "creme" sidewalls might be the ticket.

I had the Delta Cruiser tires on my 3-speed, and they felt like rocks to me. I switched to cheap Kenda tires and was happier. Your kilometerage may vary.

Good to know, Tom. I realize I'm entering a space where there aren't a ton of choices (though there are more than for the completely obsolete 597 rims Schwinn used to use). Jan Heine, where are you when we really need you???

There is also Road Sport in 590. Haven't heard a thing about them one way or the other. They look nice. No reflective strips at least. I've been happy with Kendas so far.

That's a Schwinn lightweight. Well... Not as light as a lugged Raleigh Sports, but for a Schwinn, it's lightweight.
Nice bikes though. They had different names over the years. Not sure which one this is. And...No cotter pins!

And this one appears to have a front wheel smaller than the rear, with a different brake to achieve the reach required. Looks like an early Parapull brake.

I don't know enough about schwinns to say for sure, but this appears to be an earlier model. Early 60s maybe. A Traveler or World, something like that. You're right. The front wheel does look smaller. It's not just perspective. weird.

In defense of Delta Cruisers. I ran them slightly lower than the recommended pressure. They rode soft, like giant marshmallows. Great for Boardwalk rides or trips around the block, which is what I assume they were designed for.
My Kilometerage was dim....course I measured it through a Lucas lamp so what more could be expected?

I don't understand why I had that experience with the Delta Cruisers. Most people report that the ride is soft. I should consider myself an outlier.

Its a Schwinn Racer with the more deluxe chrome package. The front wheel has been replaced.

Probably so. Looks like a '63-64 Traveler to me with quite a bit wrong with it. The Raleigh 3 speed was the better bike by that time. Would pass on that Schwinn-- too much work and money for that bike to be complete again.

1958 Raleigh Sports with the FW hub. Brakes are the original holders with modified Kool Stop Mafac Tandem pads in them. Save your brake shoe holders. You can modify Kool Stop pads with a Dremel to fit.

I decided I liked the machined shifter cable pulley so much, that I'd like to see what it looks like in brass.
I included a shot of the stainless one I presented last week.
I'm tending to go with the brass one, because it makes the gold pinstriping pop.
