Raleigh Team Pro - Pics

10 Attachment(s)
I bought this 1985 Ilkeston frame off Ebay several years ago. Just now getting around to outfitting it with full Dura Ace, excepting the Campy headset which I'll eventually get to changing out. For now, it's a ready new ride for Spring.

It's very reminiscent in configuration of the "Hotrod (Schwinn) Circuit" I enjoyed for a brief period last year. I hope the ride experience is as good. I'm expecting so.

I particularly like the paint scheme. It's "custom" from the factory, using the common Raleigh red/yellow but in a sharp minimalist fade that is somehow more refreshing to my eye than the traditional color blocks that are otherwise pervasive. I've never seen another like it.

I enjoyed the recent thread showing the various levels of Raleigh build quality, namely illustrated by lug brazing. It's hard to find anything about the construction of this particular frame to fault.

Comments/criticism invited. And no, the fork is not bent.

Two clicks get big pics.

...stunning...

Classy, but jazzed. I'd love a bike in that color.

Oh Man!!! That is Beautiful J!

I love the paint. I had mine repainted in a scheme that shifted red to yellow, yellow to black, and black to red. Yours comes the closest to looking similar to mine of any I've seen. If yours is like mine, it's a very meticulously crafted frame that has a lively ride. I do have one criticism of yours though... it's much too large.

That is as nice as they come. Wow.

That entire bike is spot on.

One of the better paint schemes I've seen in a very long time.

Love that nice fresh Dura Ace, makes me want to wax bikes tonight. :)

Oh, you did a great job with the photography as well.

I really love it. Actually, pretty much everything about it.

My only two comments would be that if you are going to keep the cloth tape to go with plugs that are a bit smaller, so you have the same bar being the same diameter, or to go with white tape, either leather or gel.

Nice!

A wonderful bike, beautifully done!

TheManSuit 03-01-10 09:33 PM

A fantastic ride. I am most certainly jealous.

khatfull 03-01-10 09:54 PM

Man, beautiful bike.

How wide are those handlebars?! :twitchy:

afilado 03-01-10 11:25 PM

Pics, please....

Hey Zorro, got any pics of your bike showing the (re)paint scheme? Please post.

My word

Wow, that is really nice. The fade paint is awesome as are are the other details of the frame. Very interesting!

mkeller234 03-01-10 11:34 PM

What lugs are those? The head tube looks like maybe long point prugnat? I am just guessing though. The sloping fork crown is really attractive.

shrinkboy 03-02-10 08:22 AM

nothing i can add but my own 'wow!'

afilado 03-02-10 09:53 AM

Thanks, Kelly.

The bars are 42 cm wide , c to c at the drops.....no-name lightweights off a late eighties Klein, along with that Cinelli stem. I guess they look wider because of the pic angle. I like wide bars on a quick handling frame.

Sorry, I don't know lugs well enough to say what these are. If additional pics of lugs or fork would help you ID them, I'll supply.

"Crayola" has been outed before.

You know, that scheme suits it so well that it looks like TI/Raleigh reversed their team colors.

I dare say though, Crayola would look even more smashing with red/black post-'73 Raleigh downtube decals.

That was the idea. Dr. D executed my eccentric scheme to perfection. I'll have to give the decal idea some thought.

Hardly. On that yellow downtube, it needs red versions of those Raleigh italicized logos. They'd have to be custom printed.

That is one clean machine! Very classy.

Two questions:
Where, in the hierarchy lineup, did the Raleigh Team Pro fall?
Also, afilado, I like your simple, yet effective, bike stand. Where did you pick that up from?
