Its a little out of my price range, I know but it does interest me especially with what its wearing. What bothers me is the double crank and short/medium cage derailleur. That said though, I would get it just for everything is comes with, but I would have to trade or sell to get a triple crank and a larger freewheel. This just doesnt seem to be the Typical setup for even light touring, but I am probably wrong. What do you guys think? Is it worth the price tag?

If it's all 531, then it's a 7xx series, and probably worth what he's asking. Look at the brochures on the vintage-trek.com website to try and ID it by color, since the group doesn't sound original.

But you're right about it not really being a tourer. Tubulars w 53/47 & 13/19 isn't your typical setup.

It appears to be a 700-series sport-touring frame, which is quite nice. The gearing seems odd for loaded touring, though, unless you only tour in flat terrain. The picture is poor, but the crank may be a Sugino AT with 110mm BCD, in which case converting to a triple wouldn't be too difficult. The rear derailleur would need to be changed to something that can wrap more chain if you do go with a wide-range triple crank.

Get the serial number from the seller and you will know for sure. +1 Probably not a touring bike, probably a 700 series sport-touring bike, which has quite a bit of value.

I will guess 1981 710 series, based on seat tube decal. 1982 had a different decal style.

Worth it at that price, but in your market and this time of year, I bet you could get it for $250.

It is not a touring bike for sure. So if you need a touring bike, I would keep looking.

Based on what the seller is saying (no mention of the material of the fork) it is either a 710 or a 610, since he bought is as just a frameset. Before 1982 model, either 1981 or 1981.5

$300 with pretty much full Campy Record, rack and bags is an excellent price. The Record seat post alone, ebays more than $50

I think I'll keep looking for a better touring rig, I have a 105 long cage RD, but I just dont wanna have to put more money into it after getting it at that price. There is also the fact that its an hour and a half away, which stinks, but on the other hand I could make way more on the parts alone...hmmm...

I think it's a 720 based on the long chainstays - I have a 610 and it's nowhere near that long. So, a touring frame but not touring equipment.

No, the 720s had longer chainstays -- 47cm. The 710 had 44cm chainstays.

Agree with above post- 700 series frame. This appears to be from the early 80's when Trek shipped frames to the dealer in 1 box and the rest of the parts for the bike in 2 other boxes. Very difficult to tell from the picture, but I believe, as others have said, that it is a short to medium wheel base bike built for speed, not touring. You need something with a lot longer wheelbase with wider rims.
