Wald 137 or 139 rack?

Anyone have a Wald 137/139 rack or the new 139Woodie? Just wondering what the load on that is. I'm thinking pretty light but want to hear anyone's experiences.

Do you mean baskets? They are fairly small, but I wouldn't put more than 15#-20# in them. I used to deliver papers with the giant 157 basket, routinely loaded with 50# of papers. But that was on a bike designed for it.

Just curious... what bike is desiged for a 157 basket with 50 pounds in it?

I ask because I've got a Varsity with a 157 basket on it and it is most definitely *not* designed for it.....I wanted the 137 but my LBS ordered the wrong size and I decide to take it anyway.

The old 70's vintage Schwinn Heavy Duty. Those things were a tank. I had the 535 baskets on the rear, a full run of papers on a Sunday would add a good 100#+ of weight to the beast. I sold it to the next guy that took the route over from me. Worksman still makes a bike that will handle a full 157 basket.

Holy crap 100 pounds in a 535 Basket?? Thats whats on the back of my Grocery getter and I think the most I've managed to cram in was 45 pounds of Groceries and it was all I could do to keep the front wheel from lifting off the ground with each pedal stroke!

Not 100# in the 535's :eek:that was the total weight split between the 157 and the 535, on really heavy load days there would be a normal paper carrier shoulder bag on top of the rack...those days really sucked!

LOL

I had one of the larger routes with somewhere around 75 papers. Sunday's and Wednesdays were always the heaviest days.

I have Banjo Bros backpack. It makes my back sweat. I'm getting the 139 to haul it around.

This bike has a 139 on it. I routinely overload it with groceries; probably 30# or so. It gets a bit wobbly, but I live close to the store. If you keep it to 20# or so you should be fine. I find it to be a useful size. I have a scrap length of inner tube tied tight to the bottom for securing my U-lock. Be sure to get a cargo net for holding stuff in.

Here's an 55" Norman with the heavy duty 157B. It's a righteous basket and can carry about all you can balance. I'll measure it up tomorrow.
