Top one is an '85, pretty sure it's 753 due to the seat cluster. Bottom is SLX, it's in line for a complete component re-do over the winter that will make it pretty much the same as the red one: 7700 D-A, Campy aero seatpost, Regal saddle & a set of polished Sugino compact cranks.

One that I got from a friend and shamelessly built into a single speed (it was quite damaged though) :

Yes maybe That was for my best friend actually. He had been wanting a Merckx for quite long. As I'm Belgian and go there every year to see the family I promised him that I'd have a look at the local classifieds. When I came back to Montreal with this bike he was SO happy that was a great moment!

Yes. To me that's the easiest way to spot a repaint - they don't take the time or effort to mask the caps and crown.

1988 Eddy Merckx Corsa

I've had her for one day, had two decent rides, ordered a bunch of goodies for her, friends offered correct parts, and I wish she fit.

Actually, she'll be headed to my brother's house as a surprise gift.

This bicycle is in unusually good condition, and should be splendid once we tweak her.

Oh, let's take the time to fill this thread once again with all of the cool new Merckx bicycles we have unearthed.

It's great to have them in one thread to enjoy and study.

hi all and happy new years....one xmas santa brought me this 80-81 merckx frame straight from belgium via e-bay ...original paint ,a braze-on for the racing # underside of tt...fork crown has eddy and merckx on the flat crown and forks are ovalized as are the chainstays...built with mostly c-record era bits, the cranks .pedals and bb were nos chorus...the headset is early athena as are the hubs laced to nisi mixer clincher rims..derailleurs are 2nd gen c-record and the shifting is c=record friction for a 6 spd regina freewheel amd chain...the brakeset is the last generation of super record and the brake levers are early c-record style non aero (and no qr) ....a super record seat post with a san marco rolls saddle are the last elements to achieve a more early 80's look despite the later components..of course the cabling is all campy c-record... the bars were a gift from a friend, nos ambrosio campione du monde paired with a pretty clean old logo cinelli 1A stem...you will have to forgive my typing and format as i have one hand in a splint from a tendon injury and not the best typist at best, and the length that's just me..be good and cant wait til april when my recovery fom surgery should be complete ...just in time for riding!!!ps. i have a 79-80 derosa frame with very similar, geometry ,lugs sgl .bottle cage braze-ons which lead me to confidently date this frame as from the earliest yrs of merckx manufacturing set up with the help of ugo derosa

Ok ill jump in here with my recently built up Century 653 . Not the greatest picture and the crank arms have since been changed out to records. Pretty happy with how it turned out.
