Faema...finito!

Final build pics of the '85 Eddy Merckx Corsa (SL) Faema colorway bike. Yes, I am aware that the front chainring has not yet fully completed the transition from small to big ring.
Drivetrain is full DA 7400 6 speed double, including the BB- and in about the best condition of anything in that series I've ever laid hands on. Brake levers and hoods are pretty darn close to NOS. Shimano 600 aero seatpost, 3TTT stem and bars, Chinese SSM Regal knockoff that is really quite lovely, EM bottle cage, 13/26 freewheel (this bike can go up hills with ease), keen-o red/white Specialized tires on Mavic rims laced to DA 7400 FW hubs, new Jagwire L3 cable housing and new Shimano stainless cables. Phil grease used throughout. This will last a long, long time without much need for attention. And, of course, it is/will be for sale. Now, on to the eye candy:

Nicely done. Why the awkward cable routing?

Not sure what you mean. Isn't non-aero supposed to be front of bar & perfect hemispherical loops? Think the cables are a mite too long?

Behind the bar is normal for smooth transition.

I just acquired a Corsa Extra in this exact same color scheme. Does anyone here know if it is a team color scheme and if so, which team and when?

I too really love this shade of green. As far as Dura Ace is concerned, I've always loved the fact the Merckx was one of the first European bike builders to make the move away from Campagnolo later in the '80s. In my opinion, 80s Shimano components are excellent and beautiful. I really like this build and this frame. Now what about the handlebar wrap? You have a huge decision to make there. It's gotta be perfect.

It all depends on the length of the stem (and headtube). In most situations, routing the front bake housing behind the bar gives the the smoothest routing. However, with very short length stems, this is often achieved by routing in front of the bar. In your case I probably would have routed it behind the bar and shortened the housing a bit. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal.

BTW, is that really a 1985? The Columbus decal is from several years later.

I'm not sure how you can create such a gorgeous bike and then sell it. It is stunning.

Inquiring minds want to know...

I used white wrap and white cable. It is.

BTW, is that really a 1985? The Columbus decal is from several years later.
According to the serial number, most likely 85-ish. As you are probably aware, Merckx builders kind of grabbed whatever number & letter stamps were handy at the time and pounded a number into the BB. At least it seems that way to me. The decal is an overlay- a PO put a newer decal over the old one while repairing some cosmetic damage most likely caused by a metal rack. Hard to see in this picture, but it's the best I've got at hand:

I'm not sure how you can create such a gorgeous bike and then sell it.
It's just what I do. Stable is full and I need to keep busy. Would rather keep busy making stunning things than otherwise.

Back story: I have a 58cm early 80's Professional frame (over-the-BB) with number hanger being resprayed by Al Wanta in this same Faema colorway. Chrome seatstays and chainstays, chrome fork. It will have a NOS 8 speed DA 7402 setup with downtube shifters and a nice Mavic wheelset with 7403 hubs. That one will be mine.

Yeah, other than the brake cable routing, this bike is absolutely bangin. Where did you find that stunning Dura Ace group? Great build and well done.

Most of that DA 6 speed group came off of a very nice Schwinn Prologue; the rest was the nicest of what I purchased during The Great DA 7400 Hunt this past year.
Wound up with at least 8 complete groups like this (2 8's, one a NOS DT and the other STI, 4 7's and 2 6's) and a box of additional odds and ends.
Quite an investment, but I'm retiring next year and have 23 frame-up build projects lined up to keep me occupied.
Including that nice Prologue frame, which is on the stand in The Lab right now. The worktable holds a DA 7700 9 speed double group with DT shifters. The result should be pretty interesting.

So where is this one?
Still with The Amazing Mr. Wanta. He got a little backed up but I expect to hear from him any day now. Hope to sell about 10 bikes in the next couple of weeks, including that awesome Faema Corsa above, which is being sold for charitry @ $1250.

That will clear the deck and give me a little elbow room to build the Faema respray up as well as a couple other interesting projects.

what can you tell me about this bike

But I would agree that it is largely semantics, and the OP is probably referring to EM factory bikes, none of which were built by Eddy's hands...

Just following along with this topic and if anyone else wants to offer their own impression of the following bike and how much you think is reasonable to buy it for. The size is about 57 and that's about right for me. Thanks

Looks like a 70s Falcon to my untrained eye. There's been one on the local CL for $125 for a long time. From what I can tell they aren't "real" Merckx. Anyone can please feel free to correct me of course.

Let me know what you think. Thanks. (I'd probably convert it to a fixed gear at some point in the future if that makes a difference)
