picked 1 up yeterday. Its a green 73 very little spotting of rust to the chrome but the fork paint is flaking badly. Other than that its near perfect. I will get some pics up tomorrow. All the components were original. I just stopped changing the plastic simplex derailleurs to post this up.

Hi King - I'll bet the heavy chrome they used to use will clean up nicely, and though paint doesn't stick very well on chrome, it will still look good even if not cosmetically perfect. Looking forward to your pics.
BTW - were the plastic Simplex DR's cracked? -or should I be asking if the Pope is Catholic?

I found this bike yesterday. It's not a Supercourse but I'm pretty sure its a Carlton. I posted it in Evaluations and Inquiries but noone ever looks there. What do you guys think?

With that alloy crank, I'd think that might be high up in the Carlton food chain.

Nearly all or all the bits have been replaced on that frame. The frame is decades older that then crank.

You're right - I see now it's Super Maxy and the rear DR is newer too.

the derailleurs themselves werent cracked. The plastic jockey wheels were. Id rather just replace them before they break while im out riding. I went ahead and put a shimano arabesque group on it. Im saving the cyclone i have for the bike im hoping to get very soon.

I took it out for its first trip with the new deraileurs and it rides amazing. Ill be adding her to my rotation of bikes that i take to work daily

wow these bikes are pretty looking one just showed up yesterday on craigslist for 70 bucks.
I email the seller, and he said he had 7 responses so he is going to sell it to the highest bidder.
needless to say i didn't email back...

I think that's a late 60's or early 70's Carlton. That brake bridge is my guidance.

Possibly a Criterium with the seat tube treatment worn off?

It's pretty amazing, isn't it? Sorry if I've told this story a dozen times, but I built mine up expecting it to ride OK. It was replacing a Peugeot UO-8 I finally retired. The frame came from the garbage on the street one block away from mine. Most of the parts came from my totally rebuilt UO-8. I expected the Super Course to ride similarly and be basically OK. It's not OK! It's superb. I ride this bike more often than any other of my too-many bikes!

I highly recommend Panaracer Pasela tires for this bike. They're probably the best upgrade available.

It sure looks a lot like that picture. It's not flambouyant copper, it's just faded ol red, but the chrome headlugs/painted stays is a rare combo. Don't know what to make of the headbadge.

IMO Its worthy of the Cyclone Derailleurs you've got...The arabesque stuff looks cool, but IMHO doesn't compare to the performance of the Cyclone parts.

That's what I have on my copper 80 model. It came with Weinmann concave 700's and atom hubs. With the Pasela's, it's one sweet ride. Sporty, yet supple,,,,BD

I just came back from tooling around on my own Green SC (not as minty as Zaphods, of course) which is equipped with (you guessed it) Panaracers : The ride is dreamy on these bikes to start with, but those tires really bring out its best traits - AND they stick like glue around fast turns.

That ride was so nice and easy that I'm going to have to go out again for some exercise.

I think I might have to scope out some of these Panaracers. I've got Bontrager Satellite tires on there now and I'm slowly realizing that I don't really like Bontrager Tires...unfortunately its all my LBS carries.



Whats the Biggest Tires anyone's got to fit on their Super Course?

I'm using a 27x1-1/4" tire on the rear of mine. It's actually a tight squeeze when inserting the wheel, if the tire is inflated. It pushes up against the chainstay bridge. Once inserted, it's fine. I think the Pasela is TALLER than other tires of the same width.
