I'm running 700c x 35 Vittoria Randonneur Hypers on my '68. There is only a few mm clearance at the front of the chainstays on either side. I will probably run 32s next time.

You guys riding the regular paselas or the tour guards. I ride 20 miles 1 way to work. It's all on busy city streets and lots of sketchy neighborhoods so I might go with the tg. The ride quality of this bike is amazing. I've been riding a panasonic (not sure what model) schwinn 3spd and a concord freedom deluxe s12. The ride of the super course is so much nicer. I think I am going to put the cyclones on it but not just yet. Im holding out for a bike I might get this week

I use the regular version, not TourGuard. I wonder what effect the extra belt has on ride quality. It definitely adds to the price and perhaps to the weight. There's not much glass on my roads. I think beverages come in plastic bottles more than before, so there's less glass to shatter on the streets.

buldogge, the 700c helps with clearance since the radius is 4mm less than 27". Zaphod Beeblebrox, what size wheels does your Super Course have?

700C. I converted it from 27" when I rebuilt it after the re-spray. Right now its got 700x35's, There's room for fenders still, but I'm just curious about bigger tires because I love the cushy ride.

Yeah, my guess is that the distance between dropouts and chainstay bridge will be the limiting factor. God knows there's a lot of room under the brakes.

With the 700s there's lots and lots of room. I've got 27x32s on mine. I have to deflate the rear to get past the fender at the chainstay bridge but I've got a kinda stupid fender.

700x25 Pasela on mine, TG's. I don't know if the belt affects ride quality or not, it feels fine to me,,,,BD

I'm running 37s on my powdercoated, re-decaled 1971. This photo almost shows the tight clearance (especially in the rear). I definitely couldn't go any larger.

I was just out in The Old Shed and stumbled across a mid seventies Raleigh Super Course frame set with a slightly damaged seat tube(post removal issue). The frame set is easily repairable, with a touch of heat, and then the frame set will be just fine. It will even work OK without the repair. Funny the things one finds in The Old Shed.

Hi Bibliobob -
You have a great combination of stuff on this bike - It is not a concern that the cosmetics are not "perfect" since 99% of these SC are not (People preferred to RIDE them vs. LOOK at them, though I enjoy doing both) . . . If you upgrading the Seat post, I would recommend an alloy straight post instead of the LaPrade style. (I have one on my red '73 SC)...
I know it is a slight weight compromise (with keeping the steel saddle clamps) but IMHO it would work better aesthetically, based on the theme of your bike.

I bought this Super Course today at a flea market. New to road biking, I wasn't sure what I was buying, but figured I'd take a chance. I'm amazed to now discover that there is such a following for this bike model. The decals are unfortunately missing from the frame, so I'm not certain exactly what I have. Based on the serial number and what I've found on the internet, I think this is a 1981. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Thanks.

I don't have a super course, but I am betting that I have a super course fork. Do your super courses have Simplex dropouts in the front? My Raleigh Gran Sport is one model north of the super course but the fork crown does not match other gran sports. It looks like they just used what they had. Of course the fork blades on mine are supposed to be 531, no telling if they actually are though.

Nope, not an 81, hmmm. If it is, then it's not a Super Course. I see stamped drops, stem shifters, and the brake cable mounts
don't really look raleigh like? IE one piece instead of two... Take some closeups of the lugs, etc?,,,,BD
