Evolution of the Smurf....
By now I'm sure most of you have seen the Smurf Trek that appeared in the C&V valuations thread. For those who haven't heres the link http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...a-home-for-her
I, w/ the help of my Florida connection (MiamiJim, Thanks Jim!) have taken possession of the smurf and have begun the process of giving it a respectable makeover. Here are some pics. http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...andbike109.jpg http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...andbike111.jpg http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...andbike112.jpg http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...andbike115.jpg http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...andbike117.jpg http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/v...andbike119.jpg There are a few issues, but I'm working through them:D. I have "new" front brakes coming soon that have long enough reach for the 700c wheels. I disassembled the front wheel to strip the paint off of everything and am now learning how to build a wheel....:thumb:. Lastly, I'm trying to figure out how to set up indexed shifting (I cheat and switch to friction and have no issues) I haven't figured out what color bar wrap to go with.... any suggestions? The dia compe gran compe levers are finding a new home and are being replaced w/ SLR levers (to work w/ the new brakes) and the new levers have black hoods. Anyway, it's cleaning up well and rides amazing!:speedy: Tomorrow I'll be going for a ride w/ my new rollers.... very excited! Let me know what you guys think! She's slowly becoming a respectable bike again. |
is that silver i see poking out behind the yellow of the decals? silver fizik bar tape. it'll go with the yellow hoods. yellow tape would just be too much.
edit: i just read the last part of your post about changing the brakes.... sooo the silver might not be a good idea. |
What's with the blue chainring?
Either way, you've done an act of charity, rescuing that poor bike. Looks good so far. |
It was poop art before. Good go for saving it.
Make an honest bike of that makeup-laden tramp. |
Looking so much better! What are those rims you are using? As far as bar tape goes, I might have a freebie for you (if you like Cinelli cork) that would look really good in this bike.
|
The rims are Campagnolo atlantas.... I'll call u tomorrow E
|
Let me know if you want to get rid of the Scott bar.
|
Chainrings are on wrong.
So I guess your not selling the wheels? |
I haven't decided about the wheels yet.... What is wrong w/ the chainrings?
Oh and about the blue chainring, I just wanted to see how it looked, and I'm not really sure I like it, sssoooo I'll be stripping the blue off. Thanks for the input guys |

the peg on the chainring of a biopace ring should tell you its orientation on the crank.
|
Rob, about that chainring: If you have the crank arm at 9 o'clock the Biopace logo should be a bit after 12 o'clock but not quite at 1 o'clock, right on the top, in your cranks. In other words, the larger oval diameter of a biopace ring should be aligned with the crank arm, like this:
