Singlespeed for less than $900?

Hi

I am looking for a vintage singlespeed. I saw this Bergamont 28" on this blog

http://www.cielbleu.ch/blog/2010/03/...e-for/#more-72

I think its a german bike - any suggestion whether I can get it in the states ore something similar? Any advice would be a help!

Don't get the Bergamont - unless you really want to drop a load of cash. I think there are probably better alternatives closer by (i.e. stateside).

The first one that pops into my head is the Bianchi Pista. Sure a load of freeloading teens ride them around nowadays, but doesn't change that Bianchi is one of the best bike-makers out there. There are a couple sweet versions - I really like the Via Brea.

Another couple of good bets (if you want a fully equipped bike) come from Raleigh. Check out the One Way or the Rush Hour Flatbar.

Both of those sites should have dealer locators, and they should be able to take it from there.

...and of course I'm only offering those suggestions because it really doesn't sound like you're interested in flipping a vintage 10-speed into a Singlespeed. It would be cheaper, but require time, tools, and know-how.

So yeah, that's why I'm just directing the OP to some retail (before C&V get all over me for it).

These are not vintage bikes. They are vintage-looking brand spanking new bikes :) My German is lacking, but from the specs it looks like it has a flip-flop hub rear wheel (fixed gear and SS). You might want to check these guys out who offer similar products (and you can customize it) . But vintage it is not :)

If you want a vintage Single Speed go on CraigsList and look for your local bike flipper. Single Speed is a big market...there are flippers catering to you.

If you're gonna go modern, I love my Raleigh One-Way for its versatile frame with lots of braze ons and attachment points. (plus it rides nice)....If I ever get bored of having it as a single speed I can easily convert it to something else.

I see Schwinn Madisons and Bianchi Pistas on ebay and Craigslist frequently. Those are nice traditionallooking fixed/single speeds. Or really a new Schwinn Madison is around $500 I think.

There's a Centurion Track on eBay, should be listed as a Trac. Definitely a C&V single speed.

WOW!

Thank you all for this great suggestions. I rely like the Bianchi - it's so old fashion...
The others are cool to but I am not so in with the messenger stile.

I took the OP to mean a vintage-looking SS/track bike, not that he actually wanted a vintage resto.
