Series Paramount rare?
Most of you guys know I have a Series 5 Paramount, seems these things are pretty rare. I know rare doesn't always mean "worth big bucks," and thats cool 'cause thats not what I'm after. ;) Problem is I can't find orig parts for it! I'm in need of a seat post and shorter stem! So the question is this, do you guys feel its a rare find? maybe even more rare than other Paramounts? as those seem to pop up every other day! :mad:

I think the difficulty finding parts may be because a lot of those bikes are still going strong, so they're not being "parted out." It's not the kind of bike I would expect to necessarily have an easy time locating proprietary "Schwinn" parts for. There may have been fewer Series 5's built because they were the most expensive of the "Series" bikes, and therefore not as good a "deal" as the Series 2 and Series 3, while at the same time not appealing to the folks who wanted a "real" Waterford paramount. Kind of stuck at an awkward spot in the lineup. Though they are certainly well-built and good performers. But they do seem to pop up with some predictability, so I think "rare" may be a bit strong. My .02, and plenty of people know these bikes better than I do.

Well put. Excellent bike, in line with Schwinn's habit, at the time, of very similar frames, better components as you go up the line.
I've seen a few 5's, a lot more 2's and 3's. I've never seen a 9C, though there are plenty of Kestrel 200's out there... Parts should be easy to find, though, unless you want OEM parts. |
The OEM SR stem and seatpost weren't all that common regardless of them being on a low production Series 5 Paramount. There are alot of other high quality parts that directly interchange.
What year 5 series are we talking about? |
Its this bike, I never checked the year. BTW, wasn't there a Series 7?

The bike in question is a '91 and as Picchio mentioned the 7-series was equipted with 600 series components. Schwinn only offer 3 and 5 series bikes for '91 while they offering 3, 5, 7 and 9c series bikes in '92.

Thanks. =0) So it either a 91 or 92.

Parts? Seriously? You can buy balck seatposts everywhere and good stems are only $20. It'd look sweet with a silver stem and seatpost. |

ITM stem w/logo filled in white, ITM bar (existing one looks to be bent, anyway), Full Gipiemme White Laser, Campagnolo Omega polished clinchers, White pedals and bottle cage, White Campagnolo aero water bottle, White Silca pump. -Kurt |
