Mavic bottom bracket question
Hi Folks,
I have recently acquired a really nice Dave Moulton Fuso frameset that came with one of those threadless Mavic bottom bracket that required a chamfered bb shell (http://www.bikepro.com/products/bott...ets/mavic.html). The bearings and the spindle are fine, but the teeth of the lockrings are in bad shape. I'd like to replace the bb, but due to the chamfering of the shell, I was unable to thread in a campy bb that I wanted to replace it with. What other options do I have? I thought of the new VO threadless bb, but it would not fit an Italian bb shell. If I have to keep the original bb, would it be possible to find replacements for the lockrings? Thanks for any suggestions you might have! |
anything's possible...those Mavic BB units show up on eBay fairly regularly, at least they used to. you might have to buy an entire unit just to get the lockrings, but then you'll have a spare.
ask for the rings in the ISO/WTB subforum "above the fold", maybe somebody here has spare rings...worth a try. |
If the chamfering is an issue, simply have the BB threads chased. Should clean up any damage done to the threads.

Agreed^
I love the mavic BBs but if you want to go ita threaded it should still fit in, probably needs some cleaning. |
I have and edco BB that can be fitted to a english threaded BB shell without threading. Edco stuff is real quality stuff. Let me know if you might be interested.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll go the route of having the BB thread chased by my LBS.
