Any way to repair this Bluemel Fender
Just trying to get ideas here. Any suggestions as to how I can try to repair this Bluemel fender? The plastic is pretty thin. My guess is the mudguard got caught on something and tore the fender.
My other idea is to just cut it back and make it a shorty front fender instead. Have a look http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ass/fender.jpg |
It looks too thin and flimsy to be patched without having to fortify then entire unit.
If I were you I'd try to find a cheap replacement from PlanetBike or just chop it into a shortie. Seems like way more trouble than it's worth to patch. |
Try the SKS polycarbonate commuter fenders from Germany. You can sometimes catch them for $20 to $25 a pair online. They seem indestructable.

NOS, black Bluemels Lightweights are available from a dealer in Cyprus, on eBay.

Cut it back to the top of the crack, drill out the rivets on the bridge that holds the stays, and poprivet the bridge back on.

They're very nice, but narrow.

You can fix the crack by suturing it with Spectra thread. Drill very small holes all along the crack on both sides. Also grind out a small hole at the end of the crack to prevent it from propagating. Suture the entire crack using Spectra leader line found at fishing supply stores.

They look like Populars...all rounded off. Lightweights have a raised centre, methinks.

I don't know, but the Cyprus seller is selling Club Specials like mine. They're really to narrow for my 28c tubulars.
That Bondo from my Klein is getting to me. -Kurt |
Is this an old Blumell? If it's a valuable antique, you could glue a thin strip of plastic (or even a piece of newer fender) to the back to preserve the look of the bike.
I've seen ads for people who "weld" plastic but it has to be the right kind of plastic. |
