Substitute 87 Tempo for 87 Lemans, same deal.

Your dad swapped in a narrower rear than what came with it, I'd imagine. rat fink's wheel would fit right in.
Don't let us complicate it. First, you stick in the wheel, then you trouble-shoot the problem. 8/10 times, the fix is simple.
An hour in my garage, and we'd be racing down the back roads, giving the local pooches a run...

I have not read through 3 pages of stuff here, but you need to add a spacer to the drive side and pull the frame out a tiny little bit. If you really want to get technical, redish the wheel. I wouldn't. I went from 5 speed to 6 and was thinking it was the latest and the greatest. It was ultra 6. then 7 speed came out and had to have it. I had to cold set the drop outs.
