This is not an outrageous price, but substantially higher than I expected for a frame that's going to need some work.

I think it's mostly just a bad description and the fact that it does need a little work. The seller was unsure of how to measure the bike and did his measurements to the half inch. If someone is buying a high end frame they want it to fit, because if it doesn't, you never make back that shipping cost. It appears to be in pretty rough shape as well, pictures usually make damage look better than it is, in this case the chipping etc. is obvious. It may also be just me, but the right seat stay looks slightly bent. Of course it may have more to do with the picture being sideways haha.

The seat stay is bent - the seller included it in his description, but with an unconventional name: "A SLIGHT BEND IN THE REAR RIGHT BACKDROP". As to the price, I don't know, it did include some other parts, camp. derailleur and headset, etc.

Looks like a copy of Alexi Grewal's bike when he won an Olympic gold. Hard to see the details, but looks like there is no chainstay bridge, so could be SLX Montello. It normally has aero brake cable routing, but this could be an earlier model.

the seller did say it was old, $$$, and might be the only one ebay this year (code for rare?) $$$$,

I'll have to look again but I don't see the frame materiel mentioned. for somereason I thought that model was like the base model and was Alle tubed

next time I list on ebay I am going to say something like, "old and unique like something you would see on american pickers". one sale and I can retire LOL

Right, there is a bridge. Most people mistake the headbadge that reads "Pinarello Treviso" as the model, but in fact this bike as well as the one in the link are almost certainly not Treviso. This one is most likely a Record. Base models had chrome only on the drive chainstay.

OH I see just like all the Bianchi "Campione del Mondo '86-87" bikes listed on ebay and CL

Straighten it out, put some transfers back on it, build it with Dyna Drive cranks and say it was used in the Olympics in 1984. Styling.

I think it went cheap.

Not sure I believe the damage ends with the seat stay. I'm thinking that price was more than fair to the seller
