Garage Sale Find! Anyone got info on this Carlton?

A friend of mine knows I like bikes, so he kept his eye out for them yesterday, and he found some gold!

A Carlton Corsair, its metalic tan with gold decals, all Weinmann brakes, rims, stem, and so on.
All original, its basiclly unridden. Made in Birmingham, England. I cant find the serial number, only has an S on the BB.

not mine, but its extactly like this one, even the condition..

Please post pictures of your bike.

Did you look on the rear dropouts for a SN?
Does yours also have the Raleigh branded crank?
What kind of rear shifter does it have?

Late seventies???

I owned one of these Carltons, a few years ago, but I never did figure out what model it was. The one I owned is very similar to yours and I am pretty sure that my bike's vintage fell between 1979 and 1981.

The bicycle did little to impress me but that is not worth much, since the bikes I tend to keep are very high end or special issue models. The Carlton will offer a nice enough ride, look just great and tend to appreciate in value with the passing of time.

Nice find and good luck with the bicycle should you decide to keep and restore it.

Sounds like the crankset and deraillers Raleigh used on the 1977 Super Course and Super Grand Prix.
The Super Grand Prix had downtube Suntour Power Shifters like yours.
The Super Course had Suntour handlebar end shifters.
This could be a step up from the Super Course frame with Carlton label. I think the 77 Raleigh Super Course still had a Carlton decal on the seat tube.

Please get us some pics of your bike.

Does the headbadge say Worksop?
Does yours have the light bracket mount on the side of the fork?
