Cilo

Hi everyone!
I'm new to the forum (as you can tell by my lack of posts ). I recently came across an older Cilo for sale. Not sure of the model and I think it was produced sometime between 85-91. Can anyone tell me more about this bike? I'm seriously considering making the purchase for $150...is that a good deal? It's been heavily ridden, but then again, bikes are meant to be ridden! The woman who has owned the Cilo for the last 10 years has taken very good care of it. Almost all the components are original, but she told me that nothing is in need of replacement at the moment. I have not yet seen it i person, but I am in the midst of trying to set something up. Here are a couple pics...

I have a red Cilo very similar to yours. Mine is equipped with full Dura Ace 7400 components and build with Columbus SLX tubing.
I love it!

Hello Jackstraw42, welcome to the forums. nice looking bike did you buy it? if it fits I would certainly snatch it up for 150. I do think the age of the bike might be closer to '84-'86 judging from the nonaero brake cables. do you know what the components are? the RD and cranks look like early 600 (atleast to me) but I am not sure of the brakes. the pedals are look 'mud vac' or something like that, a rather shortlived idea. however standard road cleats will work in them.

Without a doubt buy the Cilo! I had a 85 with SLX tubing and full DA, made in Switzerland. I would suggest offering more to perk the interest of the seller. gioscinelli

Yes, buy if it fits! Mine looks very similar to that, Columbus Aelle/Tretubi tubing. I'm not exact on the age of mine yet, but I bought it in ~87ish from a buddy in high school, so BG's guesstimate of 84-86 is very close.
It looks like all Shimano 600 to me as well, can't really see the rear der. very well.

For $150, that is a smokin' deal. Buy it, and if you don't, send me the lady's address so I can!

Agreed to all those above, BUY IT. That sounds like an absolute steal even if it isn't an SLX model. I have a much newer Cilo and love it. In terms of information on Cilo, I have found it almost impossible to find any catalogs or things info about my bike but I do remember seeing some more info on the older ones when I did a search on google. Anyways, good luck and pictures if you get it!

Thanks everyone! Good eyes Bianchigirll...It's all Shimano 600 with the look pedals you described. Oh and thank you for the information on the approx production year.

Interesting story about this transaction...the bike wasn't really for sale. The owner happened to be working a booth at a bike swap. I was a bit frustrated because I'm a bit on the short side, there were very few bikes my size, and the ones left were little out of my price range (which is ≥400 because this will be my daily bike when I move to NYC in a week). We started talking and I explained my dilemma...only then did she say that she owns a bike in which I might be interested (the Cilo). She said she used to ride it all the time, but not so much any more and she has been storing it at a friend's house. We scheduled to meet up on the 9th and she's going to get the bike from her friend at some point this week. Right place, right time I guess :-) Anyway, thanks for your help and I'll keep you guys posted!

At $300 the Cilo is a good buy in your size. At $150 it's a buy now whatever size it is. It's a great riding bike with good components - and light for steel.

Yep, any Cilo at $150 is a pretty good buy. Mine was the same as "steppin..'s" Full DA 7400 2x6 indexed. Swiss made, the bb cable guide says Vitus on it. Chrome fork w/Gipiemme dropouts, red with white cutouts. It's gone on to a relative, and it's in the powder-coat shop, to be done in OEM red and retain OEM components. Very nice bike.
