The shed and garage are empty again
 

This year I came to the conclusion that I would sell a lot of bikes. 15 so far. Some I miss, some not so much. I know that the new owners are using them though and I guess thats the point.
A 20 something guy came over last night and bought my 5 speed Sprite. He lives in the inner city and wants to use it to go to his friends, work or shopping.
Even though that bike is in new condition it won't be by the end of the summer. And I think that's a good thing.
I am keeping 4 or 5 vintage bikes and my two new rides. I will only buy in the future if the bike is very special.
I need to simplify my hobby as it started to get out of hand. It was fun to sell those vintage bikes though.
And I have a good chunk of money if something special comes along.

And if a mod could fix the "garge" I would appreciate it!

We moved to a new place with a much smaller bike space. I unloaded 30 bikes. I only kept the 16 that were nearest and dearest to my heart. I like it. I sold 4 more this weekend.
Now I can really focus on the ones that I really like. I can start fine tuning the gear ratios, stem lengths, things like that. Maybe I'll even repaint that really shabby one that I've been wanting to repaint for years.
I do sorta miss the wheeling and dealing, though.

Well, they're all special! It's a very rare (read: Wal-Mart) bike that I'll pass up willingly.

Stay away from the thrift stores. Those $15 Schwinn Travelers will call your name if you get too close.

Kind of the same situation. I've cleared out a lot of wheels, a few frames.
Down to 7, but my wife is up to 3, which is something I've encouraged but not counted on.

I'll still probably thin it down by 2 more, with the right buyer, which allows me to keep an eye open for a Ti bike.

Having fewer allows me to ride more, and it seems like there's always someone else's bike here, too.

Some of the bikes I've sold were to people that came over to look at a completely different bike. When I found out what they wanted to use it for I just showed them the bike that fit their needs.
I had a variety I guess. The "missing" part only lasts for a couple of days.
And I will be able to ride the remaining bikes a lot more frequently.

I just sold one of my nicer frames yesterday and it was kinda tough to let it go. I had been saving this Nishiki frame for my son, but he decided on riding his mother's old Miyata instead. He made the better choice, and also cleared the way for me to part with several frames I'd been holding onto incase the kids might want them. The college kid is going to do a single-speed conversion with the Nishiki, but I don't feel bad about it. I could tell when he test rode it that the bike fit him well. Nope, I've gotten rid of several bikes from the collection and now I don't feel as 'wealthy' in bikes. Previously if a friend expressed interest in biking, I'd have likely had a bike in their size and probably their riding style too. I know more will come along, but I don't see many good road frames like that Nishiki.

You did a mitzvah by selling the Sprite. How much did you charge? It's heartening when people use bikes for transportation. Too few Americans do that.

I have started to clear out some parts -- A few weeks ago I donated 18 wheels to the bike coop. Going to go through the brakes and other parts in coming weeks. Gave a bike to my sister in law. No delusion that I will clear it all out, but I would like to feel I have some control over it all.

Up here Schwinns are a rare find... we poor Canucks have to settle for old Raleighs, CCM's, Apollos and Kuwaharas.

I would love to empty my workshop. It has overflowed to the two car garage, and I now have a bike under the porch as well. I really loaded up this winter, and got too many bikes in "project" condition (extensive work required). I need to get more in close to ride shape. At least I am now in selling season, so it will get better.

This is half the workshop (the other side looks worse). And I have at least ten more bikes in the workshop since I took this picture. Then I have about 15 bikes in the garage right now....

The Colnago and the sea foam green Miyata are keepers. The rest will move on.

Mine isn't as big as yours, but I, too, accumulated too many bikes that need too much work. I'm going to invite bikeforumers to take some of them off my hands for the amount of money I paid for them.

So I guess for now, the philosophy is N-1. ;)

Well, I just bought another bike, and its a lower end MTB... At least it came with a bag of new tubes, and a really nice Zefal frame pump. And the bike just needs some cables and it is ready to go..... I....... MUST...... STOP.....BUYING......BIKES......

I have no idea what you guys are saying. The Sprite was $150.
And it was new. Less than 20 miles for sure.
I miss it though I never rode it. Maybe I should be on "Hoarders".
But I am in control here. I sold 2 more tonight. 1 Sekine and one Gitane.

And my lovely Apollo Triathlon is also gone. Another young fellow came to look at one of my old Sekine's. He wanted to start the tri-sport addiction but had limited funds.
So I said I have the bike you need and you can have it for exactly what I have into it. And it had a new cartridge BB, new freewheel, new chain and two new front rings.
It was hard selling the Apollo but knowing that it was going to be used by a young guy starting to race made me want to sell it to him.
I sold it for $150
It is a beautiful bike. Not a scratch! But not for long!

I've still got way too many. But I have no time to work on them to bring them to re-sale condition. I have a buyer for a Centurion but no time to lube, clean, touch up and put on new tires and bar tape. If I had the time, the prices are crazy high out there.

Thats what I'm doing. I sold this Cambio Rino to a fellow who wants to ride to work. I figure $30 was a good deal for him.

It is starting to get thin for bikes in my garage but I am keeping the ones I am most likely to ride. A couple of touring bikes, a Marinoni, Gitane, one Sekine and a Raleigh Twenty and my new Sherpa 30 and carbon Roubaix.
It was fun to collect and fix some of these old bikes up.

those prices are insane. even crazier if you are quoting in canadian dollars.

I live in Canada so these are Canadian dollars. Which is equal to the US dollar anyway.
And why is it a troll thread if I want to thin my collection out? I am simplifying my hobby and my life. Nothing lasts forever.
